Too many Spyware Programmes?

I'm in the process of ridding my pc of unwanted programmes as I've too many right now, I've got these and would like to know do I really need all of them as I'm not sure which are the best and which aren't worth keeping

Ad Aware
Spybot
Malwarebytes
Spywareblaster
Advanced WindowsCare
Glary Utilities

I would presonally remove Ad-aware and Advanced WindowsCare, but I have not heard of Glary Utilities.

Tbh I have Avast and Spybot, and the Windows Firewall activated (along with a hardware firewall in my router) and don't even install the "Malicious software removal tool" updates from MS as there is no point in my case as I surf very safely and only ever visit a handful of sites.

Not that I'm telling you to do what I'm doing, but you don't have to have loads of anti-spyware programs.

I use:

Malwarebytes
Spywareblaster
ThreatFire
Mamutu

Works ok for me.

Along with a firewall and AV. [Avira]

thanks! I'll remove those two though I wouldn't get rid of Glary, I've had it for a long time and it came greatly recommended by other pc users, I checked out several reviews and it comes out on top of other similar programmes, it has a safe Registry Cleaner, I know some would say never touch the registry but this is highly acclaimed as the best and safest way to deal with issues, it's never caused me any problems and I'm really happy with what it does

Keep Spybot and use the Immunize feature on a regular basis, updating Spybot first obviously. The scanner isn't that powerful IMHO but the Immunize feature makes it worth keeping.

Interesting Facts About Spybot's Immunize Feature

Quote:
Note: If you use Spybot S&D and other products like
IE-SPYAD, SpywareBlaster, etc. together, there is
an overlap of some of the protection offered.
If you undo or disable the protection in one product,
it may remove some of the protection installed by
the other. You should re-immunize or re-enable the
protection in the other products as appropriate.
I would add winpatrol Dotty

Hi, Dotty

Thanks for the Glarey Utilities nod. I quite like it.

I use:

Avast antivirus ~ free
WinPatrol ~ free
MalwareBytes Pro (a gift but free is good)
Zone Alarm ~ free
a-squared antiviral ~ free
Site Advisor ~ free

and have had few if any issues, usually being a safe surfer, but I do take a chance at dodgy sites every so often.

Hi Carolyn

yea Glary is a good programme, I've never had issues with it, I too have Zone Alarm and also Avast anti virus, you'd think it would be like Fort Knox but occasionally unsavoury characters creep in when my back's turned! I soon sort them out with the amount of armour I've got!

Back on my usual platform - I would always recommend a single procuct that gives virus, spam, spy, phish and intrusion protection even if you have to pay for it.
The ONLY circumstances where I would recommend a free programme is for granny who only does email and then only with the family.

I disagree Albert
The only time i had an all in one product was when i didnt know any better

Why buy when the free versions are just as good

Even the free AVG8 is impressing me

You and I will have to disagree DD - as you know I am a Kaspersky fan but I have been known to put the free AVG on new systems when I know that the browsing will not be to P2P sites and porn. Not sure about granny's habits, tho!

We've all done things like that - not even the best protection can protect you if the user overrides it!
