And yes this is my querie, not any third party
On booting computer today I was presented with this pop up from Comodo.
I simply closed the window without ticking either of the two boxes.

LAN#1 is NOT connected to anything
the clue is the IP 169.254.x.x
If your local IP address is returned as 169.254.y.z with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0, the IP address was assigned by the Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) feature of Windows XP. This assignment means that TCP/IP is configured for automatic configuration and that no DHCP server was found, and that no alternative configuration is specified. The configuration has no default gateway for the interface.
Your PC is not being assigned an IP address by whatever it is connected to or there is a problem on the network stopping your PC from reaching the DHCP server on the network, ie your router.
Bottom line is, if you're getting a 169.254.x.x IP address then something about your network setup isn't working, and you probably want to investigate what and why.
* If you're connected via a NAT router, then either your computer is not actually connected on the network to that router, or the router itself isn't responding to the DHCP request.
* If you're connected to the internet directly then there's something about that that isn't working. Check the cabling to your broadband modem, and check the cabling from your broadband modem to your telephone or cable line. And, if all else fails, call your ISP - it may be their DHCP server or some other item they control that's at fault.

If Klunk is right that IP address is the default address issued by the OS to connections without a DHCP account. You can check this by running Run > cmd > and type ipconfig at the command prompt. You should get the same value. What is peculiar is that Comodo should suddenly wake up and tell you about something that may have been there all the time!

I had no problems immediately after closing the pop up. All is fine and dandy at the moment.
Been with this ISP now for a number of years, this being my bouquet. Quote:
* Up to 10Mbps download speed
* 80GB download limit
* 5 email accounts
* Up to 512Kbps upstream speed
* 50Mb per mailbox
* 10Mb web-space
* Dynamic IP
* Free downloads between 2301hrs to 0700hrs

What happens if you run the ipconfig command? This would show you what your various network connections re doing at what their IP addresses are. Mine is
ethernet adapter local area connection:
connection-specific DNS suffix : (nothing)
IP address.........................192.168.1.13
subnet mask.......................255.255.255.0
Default gateway..................192.168.1.1
If I disconnect the network cable and refresh the settings the number for the IP address changes to the default which looks a lot like the number in the top of the comodo report.
