Every time I save a wordpad document, then go to open that doc it opens with gobbledegook
?T}jS&,L h\TR`dĖUXnjrXF)
Same when receiving an e-mail attachment, which can only be opened with Wordpad.

I can't help personally but I read this elsewhere - looks like a possible solution.
Maybe. Wordpad problem.

I think this is resolved. Right click and open with. Open with Word and all is fine and dandy. Open with Wordpad and it's all GCHQ
