An online scan isn't really a freeware program as such, as you don't install and run it like a normal program.
Personally I'd say it doesn't count.

in the hands of someone who doesnt know what they are doing they can cause havoc

Produce a detailed specification of your computer's Hardware and capabilities.
Easier on the eye than Belarc or Everest IMO.
