Like many of us, I use Outlook Express (OE) as an email handler.
Just a bit hacked off to find that this is now to be replaced by Windows Live - no big deal if it deals with some of the problems associated with OE, particularly the way OE fails to deal with large message folders. No choice and bet the process is one way, take it or leave it, and structured in such a way as to prevent 3rd party mail handlers working properly.
What really hacked me off was one of the first options in the install routine was a tick-box offering to change the Internet Explorer Home Page to BL**DY MSN!
Disingenuous agglomeration of snot-faced pillox put this in the same dialogue box as 'help us improve the product....' request - fat chance now. And I bet I'm not the only one.

Son of XP - bloated great oaf - too slow to load, change for change sake, etc etc. Guess we are lumbered with it unless we ride The Bat!

Edit
as part of the install it copied all the files from the existing OE install - and artibrarily reset the default account to another account (chosen I think by alphabetical order).

Edit
and it has disappeared the Kaspersky spam filter management.

Edit
and another thing on the spam filtering front - it appears to have kicked off Kaspersky and installed an over-agressive spam filter of it's own - it's default setting is agressive and it is taking out almost everything. No justification for this.

Edit
Looking at this 'orrible thing in a bit more detail. all they have done is pretty up the front end with some naff and bland colours; all the menu functions are unchanged. It is beyond me why they didn't just fix it without all the ghastly front bit. It does not get my vote.

I'm sorry to hear you don't like it mate, but I haven't used it and don't plan to now hehe.

I've used Thunderbird for years and don't plan on changing from that, it's a good program that I've had absolutely no problems with, and I think it's only ever crashed twice. I can't stand OE any more and Outlook is a bit overkill for my needs, hence Thunderbird hehe.

You're right though, why couldn't they have just fixed OE without changing the GUI, it doesn't really make sense!

Oh yeah, I've heard that the Windows Mail or whatever the pre-installed email handler on Vista is is a bit rubbish, and have never opened it. To be honest though, most of the programs that came with Vista that begin with "Windows" that I've used have been rubbish and crashed each time I tried to use them.

The Windows Mail thingy in Vista is the same animal.
I have found something I like - it has a little section that summarises incoming emails irrespective of the account. Bit like the favourites in Outlook only better.
Still - if only I could get rid of those horrible colours!

Take a look round on the web mate, someone might have been able to develop a skin for it, you never know!

Good idea Dave - I had a quick shufti and may well use one of them - some are really extreme!
The thing that is still bugging me (and won't be fixed by a skin) is that it disappeared the Kaspersky Spam settings and now everything is coming in marked as spam - even the TST stuff. And no reply from Kaspersky support - bit of a let down, that.

That's a bit rubbish, mate.

Maybe they think it's too hard a problem to solve or there aren't enough people experiencing it to bother sorting it.

Try Googleing around and see if anyone else is having the problem too, it might be that a reinstall is needed of Kaspersky, but that's just a guess hehe.

Albert, unless you have a Hotmail account, there is no need to bother with Windows mail as Microsoft is only shutting off Hotmail support for Outlook Express.

Hi Alan
thats the problem - I do have several hotmail.com accounts which too many people know about - including the one I use for this forum!
I'm just hacked off at the upposedly improved product - it's a right dog's breakfast and although it may have fixed a few of the problems with OE, why have they gone for this naff front end?
Sorry - ranting again.
