I cloned my SATA for XP just fine.

Remember...

When cloning a drive, clone YOUR DRIVE, not YOUR PARTITION!

That should clear up the numberous problems.

Good point - I'll have a go at setting this up next week. It is going to take a while to set this up and test it!

Clean drive, better chance you will get it, and before you erase it again, test your ghost image on a virtual machine to vertify and see if it is functioning correctly.

BW - I guess you have been this way before! Hadn't thought about a virtual machine so will do that - Good thinking!

Ditto

I have never been able to get Norton ghost 2003 to clone sata to sata and it always leaves the operating drive not active and thus not working leaving the ghost boot partition added onto it. Normally if the ghosting operation doesn't work it's supposed to allow you to go back to Windows but with sata you have to use a Norton application called gdisk.exe which you add to a bootable floppy to get things going again. You boot from the floppy and run gdisk.exe which tells you if your source partition is active or inactive. If it's inactive you type at the A prompt " gdisk 1 /act /p:1 " assuming partition one in the list was your operating system and that will reactivate it. I highly recommend that before you do that you hook the disabled drive up as a slave in another computer and delete the Norton boot partition which is FAT after which you need to go to C: in the same drive and delete the virtual Norton partition which has a DAT extension. It's labeled virtual partition so easy to find. I was able to get Windows going again by simply reactivating the partition but then later on something latent kicked in I'm assuming either in the ghost boot partition and or virtual partition and I lost the drive for real that time which is why I recommend getting rid of the ghost boot drive and virtual drive before you do anything else. Supposedly with the gdisk program you can delete that FAT boot partition but I have never seen that FAT one show up in the list gdisk shows of available partitions other than to say it was layered onto partition 1.
