Outlook Express and the new Windows Hotmail.

I have come across two cases where users of a hotmail.com email account have converted to the new Live Mail and find that this will now not work with OE any more, and the process is not reversable.
For some time only the old hotmail.com accounts will work with OE, now MS seem to have found another way to prevent these accounts working with an offline mail handler.
Anyone else found this?
cheers

If they have Live, why do they need OE? Different machine?

Most users seem to want OE so that they can keep the email folders, messages and address book on their own machine. If they switch to use the new format they can no longer use OE.

I though Windows Live Mail was a complete replacement for OE or Vista's Windows Mail. According to the website http://get.live.com/wlmail/features#ID0EGFAC you can read mail while offline which would indicate it is held locally. It also says you can compose mail while offline for delivery later, which would indicate the address book is local as well.

I have an amusing story about using M/S mail email clients. One of my web hosts has advised me that if I use a M$ mail client and my local broadband provider that all my outbound mail is considered spam and is bit bucketed. If I use a alternate client such as thunderbird or a different broadband provider, then they will not trash my mail.

Good reason not to use OE - but some of my clients have minds of their own and will not change their ways!

Because I have 2 hotmail accounts and you can't log into them both at the same time - much easier to just open 1 piece of local software and have it automatically download your latest email (2 accounts) and newsgroup messages for offline viewing later on the train or wherever.

Good point ContactGT - we get so used to what we use that we often don't list the benefits unless they are taken away.
