| The best free anti-malware (not anti virus) software?
Hello, I have a dilemma.
I re-formatted the computer due to a hardware upgrade, slipstreamed the win installation disc with SP3 and made a new and light installation of windows. Now I'm trying to make a light PC (only portable apps when possible... The PC is not so powerful... a Pentium 4 2.4 GHZ with 2 GB of RAM and an AGP GeForce 6200 card) and I'd like have a good protection.
As free antivirus: Antivir of course.
As firewall: Comodo Internet security free firewall.
As antispy/antimalware ???
In past I used SpyWare Doctor free version. But now I read on its site that may happen that the free version doesn't get the same updates of the paid version.
And I fear for its weight on the PC performances.
In past I used Comodo BoClean: now it is impossible to find (only old versions)... I read on Comodo site that now it has been englobed in Comodo Internet Security.
But I can't find any anti-spy / anti-malware feature in the Comodo Firewall that I installed.
So I understood where's the problem: Now Comodo Internet Security contains:
- Comodo Firewall
- Comodo Defense+ (similar to WinPatrol)
- Comodo Anti Virus
Since I use Antivir, of course I didn't put the check in the "Comodo Antivirus" square during the installation.
I think that the older "BoClean" is included in the "Comodo Antivirus" protection. So, disabling its installation I lost Comodo BoClean too!
So I have only the firewall: no anti-malware.
I can't enable the installation of Comodo Anti virus too... because it doesn't allow me to exclude the antivirus protection keeping only the anti-spy capatibilities.
I can't enable the Comodo Anti Virus installation, because I already use Antivir, and two antiviruses could create conflicts...
I can't uninstall Antivir and use the Comodo Anti Virus, because Antivir is better.
I looked around a lot:
Malwarebytes Anti Malware: the free version hasn't a real time protection.
Superantispyware: free version no real time protection
AVG: I could replace Antivir with AVG, but I read on its site that it hase only a "base" antispy protection. It doesn't protect against rootkits!!! (While Antivir does!).
What remains?
I think I have just two ways:
1) Spybot Search and Destroy
2) Spyware Doctor free version.
In case of shortage, I'm disposed to install Spyware Doctor (disabling the virus intercepting function, and leaving only the anti-spy functions), despite my fear of a system slowdown.
Or have you got any other idea? Which software do you use?
Cyber Defender? Ad-Aware?
I can't afford to buy a paid-version.
Thanks!
