Hi,
Today I purchased Office Ultimate 2007 from "The Ultimate Steal presented by Microsoft" and I must say I am rather worried and concerned.

The downloaded application file is named X16-18984 and it downloaded fine from the internet even though I did not turn off my firewall and pop-up blocker per the websites instruction.

However, when I went to run the application it took an extremely long time to do anything and finally unpacked some files, then showed the install screen but the green bar never came on and after awhile it said it had encountered an error and had stopped working.

I went to do it all over again and it did the same thing and only worked after I had disabled the firewall. However, after the green bar went all the way across, the computer shut down. I was never asked to associate files or anything like that and I can see no evidence that I now have Microsoft Office 2007 on my machine.

Does anybody have any knowledge of this or what I should do next? I have Vista Home Premium, Service Pak 2, 32 bit.

Sounds as if your download either failed to complete or was corrupted in some way.
Assuming you are a bona fide student:
Run the download again but this time select the "Save" option and direct the save to a folder you can find again without problem. Once the download is complete, run the install routine from there.
I would not think it necessary to turn off any firewall for the download to work and I cannot remember being asked to turn off the AV to install Office products either.

I finally got the suite installed!! After four trys !!

It was a most unfriendly install process, with little communication from the wizard.

It is now visible on my system and we have begun to explore, we like the new Word presentation and layout a lot!!
