Donna - I would give up with AVG as it has not done the biz since v 8.0. Use the Avira freebie instead: not only does it do a better job of protecting your system but is less resource greedy as well. Shame - AVG was the dogs wotsits in it's day.

Funny I should run across this post upon logging on today.
I wanted to hear some feed back on the new AVG 9 and there's Donna
talking about it.
I've been using Avast since the last time I appeared here and am happy
for the most part with it but it does take forever just to open a browser.
Once I get a browser (FireFox) open it's a bit quicker but just seems so
much longer with Avast than with my previous antivirus (Eset).
Anyway I was going to try AVG's latest version for the above reason but now
I don't know. Donna, you don't not sound enthralled with it. BTW, are you
running both Avast and the AVG-9 currently?
Thoughts?
Regards,
Len

OK, so you did try the newest version of AVG and were not happy with it because it slowed down your system, correct?
I've just been a bit frustrated because I'm experiencing the same thing with Avast on mine. But I guess I'll stay with Avast until I read that AVG has it's ducks in a row.

Len

Providing you take care of what and where you click, it's unlikely that any nasties will try and get into your system.
As for AVG 9 it seems the new version has caused quite a few problems here and there for lots of different folks. To be honest, I really don't recommend AVG anymore and haven't done since version 8 was released.
It's simply become too bloated, suffers from too many false positives and you can now add to that it's apparently instability and compatibility.
I whole heartedly recommend Avira as one of the best free AV solutions around.

I concur - my sentiments exactly for the best of the freebies. If you are paying then Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 is my software of choice.

Well, as I research Avira I'm finding that many folks are not all that enthralled with it.
It seems that most of the issues are around it's updates etc. Also, apparently there is an annoying window that keeps popping up, begging for people to upgrade. I think they will upgrade when it gets it's updating system fixed.
I think I will stick with Avast until something better comes along.
Regards,
Len
