MSN Most Dangerous IM Client in 2007

MS as always is the most popular target for those wishing to do harm to computer users.

January 09, 2008 - MSN Messenger was the instant messaging client of choice for hackers, thieves and many types of malware in 2007.

The IM client received 45 percent of all malware threats -- more than double the amount any other service received, according to a report released yesterday*... Yahoo received 20 percent, AOL Instant Messenger received 19 percent, and all other IM networks received 15 percent combined.

Interesting article mate, but not really surprising.

Obviously the hackers are going to target the most popular messenger programme, just like they did with IE. However, I still think if people would be sensible, then the chances of getting hit with malware, would be drastically reduced or ruled out altogether.

I hardly ever use MSN myself, but I`ve been using YM on a regular basis(every day) for a number of years and have never had an infection of any kind.

I know I don`t have to preach to you about most if not all malware attacks being down to user error, sadly, some folks will never learn.

Regards Howard

I have yet to hear of a virus or form of malware the flies randomly through the internet and shoots through your cable/wireless/dialup connection to infect the OS.

Some people seem to believe that is how it happens.

I agree, it doesn't sound that surprising.

If you're not stupid and don't accept downloads called sexypics.jpg.exe, and basically use your head then you'll be fine.

True, loads of people seem to think their PC infects itself and don't like it when you say that they must have clicked something.
