AVG Climbing Higher on the Bloatware Ladder?

AVG in my opinion just continues to climb higher and higher on the bloatware ladder and this latest "AVG Remover Tool" puts them right up there with Symantec/Norton and McAfee.

Special tools should be reserved for removing malware. Not a legitimate antivirus!

Quote:
Repair Tool of the Week: AVG Remover - Technibble

Why not just uninstall it via the Add/Remove Programs you might say? Because sometimes the uninstaller doesn't completely remove everything. If you try to install a new version of AVG or some other antivirus, you cant because it believes that the old AVG is still installed. This fixes that by running a script that removes all the registry keys that AVG left behind.

AVG Remover:
AVG Antivirus and Security Software Remover utility

AVG Remover utility removes all parts of AVG installation on your computer, including registry items, installation and user files on your disk, etc. AVG Remover is the least option to be used in case the AVG uninstallation / repair installation process has failed repeatedly.

Warning: All AVG user settings will be removed after the uninstallation, as well as the Virus Vault content and other item related to AVG installation and use. During the removal procedure you will be asked to restart your computer. Therefore please make sure to finish your work and to save all important data prior to AVG Remover launch.

Agreed - I have stopped using it now and install either of the free products from Avira or Avast.
O the winds of change!

I may be off on my reasoning but it seems to me that an AV should be put in place to watch over the OS. AVG roots itself so deep into the OS it becomes part of it. To me that's like like letting the OS police itself. By the time something happens it's too late...

I see references all the time here, there and everywhere on must do, should do,
will do it for you program removal tools for various apps.
Norton is a good example. AVG FREE is not. I have over installed that and many
other apps without removing anything. My AVG 8 FREE and spyware terminator
is running constantly as real-time shield and system idle is 98 or 99 consistently.
I installed Spybot S/D over old one without any probs at all.
Norton and Mcafee are bloatware. But if something bogs down your sys, move.
I've had many more probs with a botched M$ update than any app install or
removal. Am I just lucky? I doubt it.

I've been critical of AVG since it refused to install when I tried to upgrade to the 8.0 version. I was willing to give the Yahoo/Link Scanner crap a pass and use it anyway since I had been for around 5 years. Tried for help in the AVG Free forums and they are a bunch of a$$^oles. That was enough for me. Switched to Avast and haven't looked back.

To remove Avast Free you have to disable its self protection, it may also be true for AVG and other antivirus programs. When I removed my norton junk I did not know about removal tools so I used Revo Uninstaller did a fair job everything worked great after doing it. Later just exploring my computer I found files and folders that said Norton or Symentec so I deleted them manually.
