I have used limewire and never had a problem...NEVER.
djlen, I see you are all over the place and getting slanted views from varying angles about AVG8.
Guess you'll just have to go with it, or not, and form your own opinions.
Good luck.

I do not have an adequate fire wall (mircosoft's) currently in my view, and Blackmirror mentions Zone Alarm so I'm going to go with that.
Last question, I promise: I use LimeWire P2P often, only for music (anything else is very dangerous to download). Can Zone Alarm be configured so that it won't interfere with LimeWire?
Len | The XP firewall is ok, but it wouldn't hurt to have a third party one instead. If you're behind a router (I think I remember you saying this) make sure the firewall is activated, because hardware firewalls are very good.
Dude, anything is dangerous to download on Limewire, and music is no exception. It is also illegal to download copyrighted files for free unless the file author gives their consent, so we do not condone such activity here, but ultimately I can't tell you what to do.
Zone Alarm, however, can be set up for every program on your PC individually to whether to block it or allow it access etc.

Guess what? Just had a system booked in (yes I know it is a sunday) which has a virus which AVG failed to see and which has trashed some files in the system32 folder - don't know what it is yet.

Might as well give the PC some Nurofen mate, for all the good AVG is doing.

Glad you agree - not going to mess with this one and will bin the AVG and install Kaspersky instead, once I have repaired the damaged file structure, that is!

You get what you pay for, as my gran used to say. I have come across a whole fill of situations over the last few several weeks where AVG has never function effectively and more intense, never secure the visitor's program from malware. Not in my publication.. ..

I concur - but I would add that Avira Free edition is probably the best of the freebies.

Your gran was clearly a wise old bird! Excuse the familiarity!
Current darling of the industry is Trend Micro and at about 19 sterling for 3 machines (on Amazon) is a very good deal.
