WOT

I've removed SiteAdvisor from my final instructions and now have WOT instead. I'm convinced that the ratings are more accurate the more I use it. Many green sites on SA are red on WOT and rightfully so. It's a better system!

Quote:
I suggest using WOT - Web of Trust. WOT is a free Internet security addon for your browser. It will keep you safe from online scams, identity theft, spyware, spam, viruses and unreliable shopping sites. WOT warns you before you interact with a risky website. It's easy and it's free.

Much better. Link Scanner can use a lot resources also. And like SiteAdvisor you are relying on AVG alone to decide what's good and bad. WOT relies more on user ratings. A much better system. Less biased.

It would be people plus WOT. As opposed to AVG alone.

What does AVG say about these sites?
Spyware Remove :: Spyware Descriptions and Removal Instructions.
Free software download,Over 100000 software free downloads
Exterminate It! - Easy to use antispyware. Spyware removal tool.

I see the point you are making Kevin

AVG8 scans the page before hand and tells you if its safe to go there
It doesnt tell you about it

Want your accidental post deleted sho-dan? Let me know via PM.

I have just un-installed SiteAdvisor using Revo and replaced it with WOT. I have done this as I have complete faith in EF.

managed to put it to the test today, my mate is obviously infected with a piece of malware targeting MSN and he sent me a message to go to a site, unusual for him that and he stayed on for a couple of seconds before logging off, so i googled this site, nothing so i decided to try out WOT, came up with a bad site rating, spam is what it showed, the article supplied showed this was only found on a spam blacklist 2 days ago (26th) i didn't choose to actually go onto this site because the lack of information on it but SA came up with a "yellow" site rating also suggesting spam but unable to show any reason also it hasn't even tested this site yet

I have noticed that WOT checks with the HPHosts site to see if a site is listed. That's another major plus for WOT.

Site Advisor just updated again |MG| McAfee SiteAdvisor 2.9.242

I couldn't find a change log but it doesn't look like they reversed anything from the last horrid additions.

I was using WOT for a good while must've been a year I reckon - it is good but I uninstalled it cos it kept warning me about all the dodgy sites I was going to. I knew they were dodgy, just got fed up with the wanings.

I would also recommend it though.

That's why I refuse to use a custom Hosts file. I'm usually aware that I'm venturing into dangerous territory. If I click it I want to go there and not be blocked.

I just got your invite EF. I already have it installed and i like it.

It seems lighter on resources than SiteAdvisor and I recon the rating of links from within emails will be invalueable to many people.

OK Donna, let me apply a little pressure here. Have a look at these.

xpantispyware-2009.com | Web Safety Ratings from McAfee SiteAdvisor
Registry Cleaners Reviewed • Registrycleanerhelp.org
Quad Registry Cleaner detect, clean & repair all threats on your PC

I can find many more. The rouge security programs that MBAM removes are almost ALL listed as green or have no rating on SiteAdvisor. WOT has them all flagged as red.
