Hi guys,
I know we aren't supposed to go near Norton anymore, but I recently found out on the magazine review that the whole norton 2009 itself has been rewritten completely, and improved the security over Eset Smart Security, so I'm walking on a thin wire on buying either norton or Eset for my to be next antivirus.
What do you think, guys? I would love to hear your opinion.

I would download trial versions first and see what you think

Tom, we do not support activities such as warez sites and keygens etc. We can't tell you not to use them, but please do not talk about them on TST.
Bushwhacker, even if it has been rewritten etc I would still prefer to have Avast rather than pay for Norton.

Can't you just try the trial of both of them and see for yourself?
Sorry, but I haven't tried either.

I have seen that Symantec is making efforts to make the home version more home user friendly. As of now though they still have not climbed any spots on the AV-Comparatives list. AV-Comparatives
Check back with AV-Comparatives in March when they release that report and see if it has improved any.

Personally I would never ever even consider putting Norton on my pc for any reason. They have unashamedly pulled the wool over peoples eyes and tricked them into believing that it is a good product with advertising and false, unsubstantiated claims that it will keep a pc safe even tho I have seen the evidence in countless logs over the years to the contrary.
For me to trust them, not only would it require a good product with lots and lots of independent proof, but it would also require a complete change around in the way they operate.
Making people believe the product is good just to make money is in my opinion a poor show and not a whole world away from how the fake antimalware makers work.

I completely understand your point of View mate and I too am somewhat sceptical of the new Norton.
However, it does seem to be a vast improvement on previous versions and maybe they really have got it right this time.
As you well know, I'm no fan of Symantec/Norton for all the reasons you gave, but I'm willing to see how this version pans out and therefore, I'm not going to start slagging it off just yet. |

I believe Norton put a whole new slant on the phrase "false sense of security". For that, it's going to take a whole load of convincing for me to look past it.

I agree with you there, Rik. I have been considering that Norton is not a good product for years, since I have used the 2003 version before.
I recently abandoned Eset Smart Security and got myself BitDefender Total Security 2009, and I can say it runs much more better than the one I had. its not the best but its more.. user friendly which i really wants | | Only registered members can participate in forum threads.
