Not sure. It's like the fake "Some big celebrity died" emails. The creator likely gets some sort of strange satisfaction by seeing the commotion they stir up.

There are probably thousands/millions of them but just a few that actually take traction and make the full rounds.

These old hoax emails should be treated as Spam emails from now on, I am surprised that the people who run the Spam databases havent marked them as such by now.
This one that Rob's Mom has had is identical to that stupid Olympic Torch one.

They're worse then bl00dy chain letters they way people keep re-sending them around.
