Fake YouTube pages used to spread viruses

Quote:
Savvy Internet users know that downloading unsolicited computer programs is one of the most dangerous things you can do online. It puts you at great risk for a virus or another time bomb from a hacker.

But even some sophisticated surfers could get taken in by a sneaky new attack in which criminals create fake YouTube pages — dead-on replicas of the real site — to push their malicious software and make it look like it's safe stuff coming from a trusted source.

This kind of thing has been going on for a while. Any popular site that gets lots of hits can become a target.

There was a fake hotmail log-in some time back for example. Microsoft shut it down extremely quickly tho.

I always check links by hovering before clicking if it looks remotely suspect Unless I'm on TST or something then obviously not

One to be prepared for: Say you received a PM from a recently new member with a link to what appears to be a thread link then don't just click it straight away. Why? Because not long back someone did the same at BleepingComputer and it looked like a thread link, however the member had just used BBCode to disguise it. It in fact led to a fake BleepingComputer login page which if you entered your details then they'd have your username and password.

Good thing I have the 10 posts minimum in place -- stops a lot of spammers.

I would like to test Kaspersky - if you find a dodgy link, please tell me about it!
