Norton subscription

Would it be a bad idea if I were to "leave" norton on my computer, just disable it and download another antivirus that would be enabled?

The reason I'm asking is I really don't want to remove norton until atleast it's subscription runs up. I hope that makes sense?

It is hard to disable any antivirus. They are designed to NOT be disabled by any means. Norton from my experience is the #1 hardest to disable. It's either all or none with it.

Avira I think is the top choice at the moment. I've heard nothing but good and better things about it.

I checked to see how long of a subscription I had left for Norton, and it says I have 1 year and 9 days left of subscription left. lol

What do you think I should do Evilfantasy?

If you feel you have gotten your moneys worth out of it then get rid of it. If you think you should wait a while longer then that's fine also.

Well, what would be the best paid program to get if you were to pay for it to get 'full' features? Also, it has to be Vista compatible.

I moved this to a new thread since we were hijacking the other one...

Question: Why do you want to pay for an antivirus?

If you are going to pay then just keep Norton until the subscription runs out then buy a license for Kaspersky or BitDefender.

Well the reason I'm kind of skeptical about norton is what the other person said where I had replied too. About how Norton didn't catch viruses which kind of made me worry. If you know what I mean?

Well no AV is going to catch or be able to remove everything. If they did there wouldn't be busy malware removal forums all over the Internet. Most of the prevention is good surfing habits. It all depends on if you want to use something else or not.

Alright, well I'll just go ahead and keep the subscription I have for now, then when it runs out I'll just post another message when that time comes and see which I should get because I'm sure there will probably be more AV's when that time comes around. lol

Thanks for your help Evilfantasy!

Couple of observations from a renowned Norton hater.
1 - with norton installed. although inactive, you will not be able to install another AV package - or at least find it very difficult.
2 - there is a downloadable Norton removal tool - Download and run the Norton Removal Tool - use this to clear but be careful as it will remove most other things from Norton or Symantec as well.
3 - Revo uninstalled is the dog's bits - download for free from Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Uninstall, Remove Programs, Solve uninstall problems
Hope this was helpful...

As you may have gathered, I am a fan of Kaspersky. You can buy the OEM version from ebuyer (don't have the USA URL for it) at a price far lower than Norton renewal and it is a far far better product.

Okay, I will have to check into that. But I didn't buy Norton, it came with the computer with a subscription. So basically I guess it came for free with the purchase of the computer.

Glory! - too much, dude!
I would clear out nearly all that lot and stick with spybot and norton; and when you change to Kaspersky IS you can get rid of everything else!
