Hi, I posted this question late last year... early this year? on TS G however with a big brainstorm we were unable to find an exact answer, The PS3 has an easily upgradable HDD, any standard SATA 5400rpm 2.5" will do the job, but how far can you upgrade? I think i have seen people sporting 250gb HDDs on their PS3s, and the HDD has to be formatted in FAT so that limits it to 2tb But as far as ive seen Playstation website gives no specific information and neither does an far decent internet search and research, wondering if anyone else has any ideas?

The largest capacity 2.5" 5400RPM drive available at this moment in time to my knowledge is 500GB. This may increase over time, but since many 2.5" hard drives are now 7200RPM, and with SSD's gradually becoming mainstream, they might just leave it at that.
Hope this helps

I've not seen a 7200RPM 2.5" drive above 500GB either, well, not yet.
To be fair though, you would have to have a fair amount of games and media to fill up that

I read of a 750GB drive available.
Also read some are using 7200rpm 3.5 inch drives instead.
Not even sure larger would fit except maybe external.
Wonder what limitation factors are involved on running 7200 vs 5400?
I'm no gamer so really not sure what the heck I'm talking about but that doesn't
usually stop me from making a fool of myself.
Anyway, good luck.

Well using a 7200RPM drive in a PS3 is not really recommended but can be done so according to Sup2a.
Games consoles are speed-sensitive, thus, say for example you added more RAM to a games console or overclocked the CPU, the games would run hyperspeed-like rather than smoother as it would on a PC. This video is an example of what I am trying to explain.
I'll have to have a look for a 750GB drive, possibly to upgrade my own with

I wouldn't particularly quote me on that thats what ive heard from many people but not as a fact, you certainly can upgrade with a 3'5 drive, however yes it does have to be external and you need a SATA extension cord, not the most practical option really but it is possible

It seems you're right, it can be done.
I've just done a bit of googleing and I came across this.
It shows some actual performance benefits, but not significant enough to pay the extra money for in my opinion.
how about an SSD in a PS3? Now that's something I'd like to see

I wouldn't decidedly adduce me on that thats what ive heard from abounding humans but not as a fact, you absolutely can advancement with a 3'5 drive, about yes it does accept to be alien and you charge a SATA addendum cord, not the a lot of applied advantage absolutely but it is accessible.
