I`m looking around for a few good pc games. I like all kinds of games, action, strategy ect.
Just wondering if anyone knows of one or two that are worth getting?

If you feel like an old school game, you can pick up Sim City 3000 for about £3
Other ones I play are UT: GOTY Ed., CS:S, Flight Sim (04 i think) and Max Payne 1 & 2. I play most games on PS2, the ones you could get for PC would be NFS (Underground 2/Most Wanted - i.e. the best two IMO) and Tony Hawk's

Star Wars Battlefront II was very good, I still haven't completed it yet. A hard action game.
UT2003 / 2004 very good games too.
Pro Evo 2008 if you like football.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, TESIV: Knight of the Nine, and TESIV: Shivering Isles.
This puts you on over 350 hours worth to play, and even more if you adds more mods.

Probably because you don`t have a quality graphics card. Get a decent graphics card and you`ll love the PC.

One of my PCs at home has 1.8GHz CPU, 256Mb Nvidia graphics, 2Gb 400MHz RAM, and I can't play the newest 'next gen' games such as Unreal Tournament 3 or Pro Evo 2008 on anything higher than basic settings.
Time to spend some ££s!
Get a very good spec PC and you'll only play consoles for games not on the PC IMHO.

If you want a computer for just games, i'd reccomend just buying a console. But if you are an enthusiast or don't just use for games, a top spec PC is reccomended. Games are so much better on a PC providing you have the right rig for the job

That`s up to you, but you can just simply get a better graphics card than the xbox360 or playstation 3. Althought I only really want a good enough graphics card to play the latest games. I have a Atix1950 pro and that suits me fine for the time being, then I`ll get a better one for my new build.

Yes it's easy to just say get a better graphics card, but a shiny new graphics card doesn't always solve issues with games. RAM, CPU and not forgetting the hard drive play major roles also. If you play a high spec game with the best graphics card, but with 512MB RAM, it will struggle, regardless of the graphics card. Not forgetting the most expensive card, you could buy two Xbox 360's with the cost! Ultimately adding up the cost and therefore spending triple of what you would on a games console. Well I know very few people who use their computer for just games, and more fool them for doing so I say

I disagree with one of your points. If you buy a PC game DVD, they tend to be cheaper than console versions, and can be very easy to customize. Look at Pro Evo 2008. Cost £35 on the PS3 and XBOX360, but £17.99 for the PC version. Not only is the game exactly the same, it's a lot easier to customize the PC version.
Unreal Tournament 3 is the same - cheaper on the pc and you can customize it untill your heart's content. The developers actually endorse this. I think the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 is customisable, but have yet to see it.
I also find playing 1st persion shooters on consoles very hard, as they don't use a mouse and keyboard combo to control movements.
Still, everyone has their preferences.

Consoles nowadays have mouse and keyboard compatability i.e the PS3. Yes your point is true, but that's only because the consoles have not long been released. Wait a year and a half and release prices will be below £30. Also don't forget on consoles now you can download full, high definition games onto them for less than £20. Yes they are customisable. Some games on the PS2 are customisable, for example installing kit packs on your memory card for Pro Evo. Games for PC are also cheaper as they only use DVDs. Consoles now use HD DVDs and Blu Ray, which are more expensive to produce anyway for obvious reasons. True, everyone has their own preference. My intention of what I was saying is more fool them because a PC is so much more than a games console, and so much more can be done with it and it's being wasted if you just use it for games, not that games are better on consoles or whatever.
Well I haven't tried Pro Evo 2008 on the PC, but I have FIFA 08, and in my opinion, i'd rather pay the extra £15 for the console version, as the quality is so much better in comparison, especially graphics-wise. The PC version of FIFA 08 is a big let down.

I haven't seen the new Fifa on the PC or consoles, as I never liked the Fifa series.
Remember, games that are on both console and PC are generally better on the PC - it's what they were written on!
The only games I like that I can't play on the PC, are Gran Turismo 3/4/concept and obviously the Wii games.
Although I have Wii controllers running on my pc, so that could change if someone can get an emulator working......but I have a Wii so no need for that.
The old PS2 games such as pro Evo 6 were customisable, but that involved as you say, kit packs, option files etc, but the only real way to do it was edit the afs files, burn to DVD and play on a chipped or swapmagic PS2. Too much hassle for me.
Agree, anyone with a PC just for games is wasting it, but if you're like me, you'll have a PC for different things! One for games, one for Windows website development, one for Linux website development, and a Laptop for work.

Though it doesn't matter what they're written on, that doesn't make the quality of them worse. It's not about what they're written ON, it's about what they're written FOR.
I know this is a bit of a crappy example but a fantastic story could be written on scrap paper whereas a terrible story could be written on good paper. That doesn't mean that the worse story is actually better as it's on better paper.

I have a copy of Black & White in the box which has never seen the light of day. Pity as they all told me it was the best of the bunch.
Best game ever is Elite. Anyone old enough to remember that first on the BBC micro?

But the story is the same....surely?
You'll be hard pressed to find a console with better graphical capabilities than a good pc.
They're designed that way for cost reasons. Also, a better graphical capability console would mean the game would be limited to the capability of the PC it's written on.
Every PC game I've played that has had a console version, I have preferred the PC version.
The original Unreal Tournament is a prime example. Good on the PC, diabolical on the PS2.

But another example. 007 Nightfire on PC, a terrible game, on console, it's a completely different story. Some people prefer PC's to consoles. We're all different and have different tastes. Yes I agree, PC's do have better graphical capabilities, especially after spending almost £1000 on buying two 8800's in SLI. That could buy you a console and about 20 games. And it's not about how powerful the PC is written on for the graphical spec of the game. They obviously don't use your regular home computer to program these games. The graphical capabilities of a game is normally down to the makers of the game, and the capabilities of the hardware intened for it, not their computers.
