personally I hate playing any type of FPS game on anything but the computer. I can't stand using the stupid little joysticks to move and look around with.. its annoying.

Same here mate, a mouse is much easier to use and you can move at any speed you want with it, instead of however fast the programmers let the joysticks move you.

Yeah I know what you mean since I used to primarily play games on the computer until it got...outdated. The analog sticks don't really screw things up though...in most games you can change the sensitivity of them...kinda like a mouse. The thing that I love about consoles though is that you don't have to worry about system requirements

but the downside of consoles is that they're non-upgradeable until the new system comes out. and many times the hardware in them isn't up to par when new games come out. take the 360 for example. 1 guy had 12 processors die on him because he was trying to play Bioshock on his 360. at least with any custom computer, it will tell you it can't run it, and you can upgrade instead of having it try anyway and killing itself. and many games on the consoles are ported to the PC anyway. PC games are cheaper than console games too. take the orange box for example. 57 dollars for the 360. 47 for the PC. that's 10 bucks in my pocket you also save lots of money not buying controllers and memory cards.

and generally the new system is much more expensive than the last gen system. like the PS3 for example. when it came out, 599 us dollars! eff that. you end up spending over twice that much just buying the console and a controller, a few of their forced accessories, and a game.

Take my rig. I spent around 800 US dollars on it. I don't have anywhere near the latest stuff on it, but I can still play the latest games. Granted not maxed out but I can still play them. And when my graphics becomes way outdated then all I will have to do is go and buy a new graphics card, which is much cheaper than buying a new game system.

All of you make valid arguments in the defense of computers. But think about something. If computers are so much better, (and I believe they pretty much are), then why are game consoles so much more popular?

because certain games aren't for PC. take Super Smash Brothers Brawl for instance. it was one of the driving forces for why people went and bought a wii. consoles are also easily portable, and are better for having 4 people on one unit than a computer :3

i dunno about you, but i wouldn't like having to share a keyboard and mouse with 3 other people just to play 1 game with them.

it makes some forms of gameplay a lot more convenient and offers a wider variety of games. and don't forget. a lot of the population isn't computer literate. hence why we have a forum here

and if they aren't computer literate, that means they don't have the know-how to make a computer capable of playing some of the same games that consoles can, nor would they bother spending a few hundred or 1000 dollars on a gaming rig when buying a 150 dollar wii is an option. so buying a console for gaming makes a whole lot more sense when you look at it from a less enlightened point of view, and from the point of view of convenience and cost. the few of us that have a gaming PC spent a few months reading up on stuff, and saved up a few hundred dollars to buy and install some custom gear. half the people that want to game don't feel like putting forth that much effort.

I agree, although I do believe that gaming is down to user preference really. Many people prefer gaming on PCs for a number of reasons, such as games are fully customizable to suit the user etc etc.
You can easily plug 4 pads into your computer. It's possible to even plug Wii remotes into your systems these days.
But all of the things i've mentioned need some sort of computer literacy, and as you've pointed out, not everybody has a lot.

There is a wide choice of games on consoles, but they are time limited, and eventually they stop making games for the previous generation consoles, whereas PCs are timeless really. Though you need better hardware, you can still play all of your games no matter how old.

Well PCs are actually more popular than consoles, but if it's just gaming alone you're referring to....consoles are more popular for games because not everyone has the knowledge of how to actually use games on PC, whereas everyone can use consoles. Also down to user preference, and a gaming PC costs much more than a console really.

Very true. I mostly play FPS games, so I like the computer for that. But if it comes to sports games, I rather play them on a console. Thats were the little joysticks come in handy.

That's what LAN parties are for haha. r just old fashioned playing over the 'net

All very good points here, and like Sam said, if a game needs more spec that you have, you can get a new card or more RAM or whatever, instead of buying a new console, which costs a lot more.

As Taima said, you don't have to worry about specs with consoles, as that's all taken care of by the developers. I find that sometimes they try pushing a console a bit much, though, and you can actually get lag on a console, but that's just down to poor developing IMO.

At the end of the day, PC's are limitlessly upgradable, and consoles are completely restricted until they make a new one.

I also prefer playing driving games on my PS2 because of the joysticks, which are variable input, as opposed to keyboard up/down keys which are on/off controls.

Moved posts to their own thread, none of this is about quad cores

While PC's are certainly better than consoles, I do prefer playing games on consoles -- most games, anyway. Saying that, I hardly ever game, don't have the time these days.

I am starting to get to the point were I won't be gaming any were near as much as I used to. I will be starting to do a apprenticeship thing, at a hospital, with their IT department. So won't be gaming much once I start that.

Speaking of actually getting lag in consoles. I get a tad bit while playing dirt to daytona on gamecube. its nothing horrible, but its a tad annoying.

I find that on Zelda and the Windmaker (I know that's wrong hehe ) on the GC there's lag when you're righting people, especially when there's more than one enemy you're destructorising with your sword.
