With the release of the cheaper 40GB PS3, people may be confused on the differences between the 40GB version and the original (60GB), so heres a list of the differences.
* Well firstly the original and more expensive version has a 60GB Hard Drive whereas the newer, cheaper version has a 40GB
* The original has 4 USB ports located at the front, whereas the new one only has 2
* The original has a Flash card reader built in whereas the new one doesn't
* The original supports SACD (Super Audio CD) playback, the new one doesn't
* The original is backward compatible with PS2 games whereas the new one can not play PS2 games.

Yes, the 60gb ps3 version is backward compatible with PS2 games, so you can play your ps2 games on it.

Also, the 60gb PS3 has a glossy finish and the 40gb PS3 has a matt finish
Both of them can play PS1 games though.

Something else which sets the 60GB one apart from the 40:
The 60GB version has a silver piece of plastic over the Blu Ray drive that goes straight down to the bottom of the console, and the 40Gb has a black one It looks way cooler with the silver bit IMO
