Much to do about Washington, train rides, mobs of people, 10, 000 National Guards,
and the list is endless.
There will be more members of law enforcement in the Nation's Capitol over the
next four days than there are soldiers in Afghanistan.
Hey, whatever it takes for this historic moment and all that want to be a part of it.
After the hoopla, here is what I want to see:
A strong focus on the present and future...looking forward and not backward.
Get the military back on track.
Get the economy back on track.
Get government back on track.
Get back our goodwill with the world.
Can Obama get a start on all this with our help? YES WE CAN!!!
(Obama has the highest approval rating going in. Bush, the lowest going out.)

Of course they need that many cops/soldiers to cover. How many people out of the 2 million that are going to be there do you think want him dead?

The National Guard will help to ensure a safe and secure environment for all attendees.
No one would wish Obama harm...except maybe some racist rednecks. |

On the eve of one of the most historical days in U.S. history I am but a little
surprised that more have not added to this thread in some way.
Oh well, I am surely a happy camper never the less.
After George W Bush's painfully long lame duck period, most Americans cannot wait
for Barack Obama's inauguration and he will take office tomorrow with approval
ratings of 80 per cent. |

for what it's worth I think he'll make a fine president, it's such an historic event, he is making a stand for those who previously had no voice, good luck to him!

Thanks Dotty and BM. I do not gear these statements toward folks from another
country but to Americans that voted or didn't vote for this historic event.
I know our President will affect other countries and I really believe he can help.
But not for Iraq the UK wouldn't have lost as many soldiers and 4000+ of
my brothers either. What a sham(e).
Just let me ramble along my merry way. Whatever happens...happens. |

IMO everyone is asking and hoping for too much. There's has been a lot of presidents, in our case prime ministers, and each one has promised to do this and that, but in actuality, they don't do much.
High expectations will only lead to disappointment.

Jason, you are absolutely right. Politics is politics no matter where you reside.
1. Politician. They make all sorts of promises, give vague descriptions on what they
will do for you and in the end give you nothing.
2. Used car salesman. They make all sorts of promises, give you a vague description
on what the vehicle will do for you, but in the end you may get a piece of metal
that may or may not last.
3. Hooker. They give only three promises:
(1) you will get what you pay for;
(2) it will be the best you've ever had; and
(3) they are not an undercover officer. They are very specific in what they will do for
(to) you, because if you didn't pay for it upfront, you ain't getting it.
In the end, although you get screwed, it's what you wanted all along.
I heard 2 presidents in a row say, "READ MY LIPS.....yada, yada, yada and then
go and do whatever they wish anyway.
I do have hopes for President Obama. |

Please do not quote me out of context.
Feel free to add comments after what I say. Thank you .
Obama's speech was very good indeed.
Still...we know he can talk the talk, now hopefully he'll walk the walk.
To be continued....................
Goodbye former President Bush.
Hello President Obama!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!
Now onward and forward. |

I'm not going to be a big part of this conversation but I will say this.
Obama has made a few statements recently that are 'almost' supporting some of the things Bush has done that Obama had criticized. From what the "insiders" are saying is that the classified information that Obama has suddenly become privy to is helping him understand why things were done the way they were.
Also Obama's political tone has suddenly switched from "Change Now" to "We are a long way from change". - Only time will tell how his presidency goes. The man is very intelligent and has already smashed many stereo types. But now it's time to judge not the man, but the President. We are a long way from being able to do that.
My parents who are both retired have had to cut their income to 1/3 of what it was 6 months ago. Obamas Inauguration price tag will dwarf all other presidents by far. In a time of a failing economy! Total cost of inaugural festivities is expected to exceed $160-million.
That's 160-million of Americas tax dollors.

It's very similar to, but not quite the same as, a Pyramid Scheme. They simply can't support themselves and fail. Quote: |
Pyramid schemes exploit greed and gullibility. A successful pyramid scheme combines a fake yet seemingly credible business with a simple-to-understand yet sophisticated-sounding money-making formula.
| I'm done now, I promise . I do wish Obama all the well wishes in the world. I just think people are a little blinded by the historic "feel good" phase of all that this new presidency is about. Tomorrow everyone gets to get back to reality, hopefully.

Goods points, Kevin.
Obama has just said what everyone wants to hear, that's why (imo) he has so much support. How do you think Hitler got to power? (Yes, they're completely different, but you get the idea). It's time now we started seeing with our eyes, instead of our ears.

Obama is not the Messiah but he sure is not the anti-Christ some say either.
The man was only sworn in hours ago but the right-wing lugnut stations are
already picking at festers, some before they even appear.
I don't like what has happened in the last 8 years.
I did not what a Bush clone elected and continue on our present course.
IMHO McCain lost a lot of ground when he did not separate from Bush soon enough.
I expect Obama to now find out exactly what he is up against and possibly
change some of the things he said he would do or try to do. That's almost inevitable.
But I will at least give him a chance to succeed or fail. It won't be perfection.
I just hope for an honest effort. Time will tell. What time is it now? |

Does he have Muslim in his family somewhere along the line? Just that is middle name is Hussain.
Like you said, it'd be wrong not to give him a chance and I wish him the best of luck, but I can't see much happening tbh.

Obama father was Muslim Barack's bingo-loving stepmother Quote:
She is a bingo-loving grandmother who lives in a council house in Berkshire.
On Tuesday he is sworn in as 44th president of the United States - Barack Obama.
Their worlds are seemingly chasms apart - but they are in fact linked in the most extraordinary way.
For the new man in the White House is Kezia Obama's stepson

Snopes is pretty darn good at separating truth from fiction. Who Is Barack Obama?
I know some rednecks that believe Obama is not American because they think
Hawaii became a state in the '60's. I have to laugh in their face.
What's in a name? Do the names Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Muhammad Ali
ring with radicals? One of the best basketball players and fighter in the U.S. ever.
According to many sources Muhammad is the most common name in the world.
My pharmacist's name is Hussein Edwards and he's as American as I am.
For all the sore sports, I'm not sorry.
UKers have a queen and pm. We have President Barack Hussein Obama.

It will be nice for the Americans to have a president that can make a speech without faffing it up I expect.
