"some colleagues i wouldn't trust with blenders let alone stun guns "
Lets just hope we don't see a repetition of the abuse as has been seen in the USA

Damn, What a ride!!
People want to get away with everything these days, it's about time something was done... this knife crime is getting out of hand and I think everyone has had enough.
Lets face it, the police do a pretty damn good job. They need things to protect themselves.
What concerns me is the effect they have
50.000 volts is a lot electricity

people who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the young, the elderly or those with medical conditions.
How do they know who will be alright and suffer no ill effects and who it will affect
When someones dies from being stunned will they face a murder charge .?
All sorts of questions are running through my head

These things have been standard procedure in the US for quite some time now. If they do it the same way over there during training all officers who carry them are subjected to being shot by one.
They call them less lethal weapons. Beats being shot by a 9mm I'm sure.

They say it doesn't really hurt much. The jumping around and yelling is a reaction of your muscles convulsing from the shock. Once the trigger is released you recover in less than a second.
The 50.000 volts is only a split second. It reduces to something much less for the duration.
Well perhaps they can modify them to render you sensless but not hurt at all
Hope my son doesnt bring it home with him

That's why they are so important in the US. Anybody can easily obtain a gun either through legal or illegal means. Too many officers have been killed when a gun has come out of nowhere while trying to detain someone. The police were forced into drawing down on anyone they are investigating and some were shot unnecessarily when they ran or began getting getting aggressive with officers. The tazer makes it to where, even though they are breaking a serious law, they won't just be shot and possibly killed.
The tazer has the same kind of influence on a criminal as a police dog. Makes them start to comply rather quickly without a fight.

Sorry BM but that just isn't true. When you feel a static discharge that can be over 10,000 volts.
Its amps that kill, not volts. Stun guns are less than 500 milliamps, and are most usually about 200 milliamps.

Depends how you look at it. Higher voltage means higher amperage, and thus higher voltage has more potential to kill. It takes only 100mA to stop your heart (sometimes lower).
Well anything less than 50 volts won't hurt you because of skin resistance. But, I still say both are dangerous. High voltage can cause a heart attack if the source can deliver moderate current (100 milliamps).
I can see if now
In the blue corner son with taser
in the red corner mum with a wet tea towel
No competition
Hes history
