Wearing protective clothing is not off topic. You may have to take them down to sit down. as I have not invented elasticated aluminium foil yet!

The worst reported case i saw was a wheelchair bound woman was tasered

Dave is a skateboarding yooth so no match for you!
The cops are not trained properly so it is no surprise that they make the most horrendous c ock-ups.

I have to go off topic Rik
As a newly wed my husband sent me to the chemist to get a 12 volt battery for his watch
the man said it would be a little heavy for him to wear
I also had on my shopping list some wire netting seeds and sky hooks
I put itching powder in his undies for the humiliation he caused me

I'd say a 9v battery is enough to kill you under the right conditions. (i.e. wet -- this lowers the resistance).
I know that current kills, not volts. People are different, just because a certain amount of amps could kill one person, doesn't mean it will another. Current varies, depending on the conditions of the person.
A stun gun uses a 26-watt charge (less than 0.2 amps) to directly control a target's muscles, forcing him or her to collapse into a foetal ball.

The new M-26 Taser models produce a peak current of 18 Amperes in pulses that last for around 10 microseconds.[2]
The internal circuits of most electroshock weapons are fairly simple, based on either an oscillator, resonant circuit, and step-up transformer or a diode-capacitor voltage multiplier to achieve the continuous, direct, or alternating high-voltage discharge. It may be powered by one or more batteries depending on manufacturer and model. The output voltages without external "load" (which would be the target's body) are claimed to be in the range of 50 kV up to 1000 kV, with the most common being in the 200 to 300 kV range. However, since air has a dielectric breakdown (Emax) of 3000 kV/m, it is clear that the spacing of the electrodes will not permit the upper range of claimed voltages (900 kV representing a minimum electrode spacing of about 30 cm). The output current upon contact with the target will depend on various factors such as target's resistance, skin type, moisture, bodily salinity, clothing, the electroshock weapon's internal circuitry, and battery conditions. | http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroshock_weapon

It's fine saying the suspects deserve all they get and I agree usually.
Unfortunately normal police incompetance ensures many innocent victims will bear the brunt.
For any tasering that turns out to be wrong, the victim should have the option to taser the cop who did it - that'd make 'em think a bit more before they act.
I have a fly-zapper that uses 2 AA sized 1.2 volt batteries which gives you a really strong painful jolt. I know this for a fact, I tested it on my knee.

I have one of those too Dr S - kills flies OK but I don't understand why a wasp will sometimes survive?

That's true, a bluebottle I zapped and had laying on the mesh with sparks flying off it suddenly flew away here once....probably died later of injuries sustained; I didn't see it again anyway.

In my construction days we would occasionally send the new guy over to get the pipe stretcher. | | | Only registered members can participate in forum threads. You must register or log in to contribute. All times are GMT. The time now is 10:34 AM.
