A 15 year old boy who ran away from home after his xbox taken away because his parents thought he was spending too much time online playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, affecting his school work and social life, has been found dead after a 3 week search.
See here. Brandon Crisp found dead.
Not much to debate, really, but this didn't seem appropriate in chitchat and is kind of a downer for Tech News.
His Dad helped him pack his backpack when the boy threatened to leave home.
I cannot imagine how he feels now.
I did the same for a son of mine a while back, but he didn't die.
Search organizer: This is not the ending we wanted.
"It's a story we can all relate to if you have children. This could be any one of us."
Could it? Could it happen to "us": the more savy computer users, whom are far more in-tune to the Internets and it's addiction, real or imagined than at least my generation's parents?

I just read the news article, that is very sad. It's sad that kids take it so hard when games or toys are taken away, but even more sadder when they do decide to use the whole threaten part of "running away." I know that it must have been really hard on the dad because he helped his own son pack his bag. The strange thing is, why the lady that had seen the boy not stop and ask if he was ok or needed a ride if she said that he appeared to have trouble with his bicycle.
All around it's very sad. Thoughts and prayers are definitely with that family.

Years ago it was teddy boys, then Mods, then New Romantics - pick any era and there is an obsession. Seems nowadays the lack of respect for the family seems to add that last little shove to make the youth of today more arrogant and irresponsible, which when coupled with perceived unvulnerability and occasional "super hero" delusions leads to this sort of thing.
Like it or not, if the game had not been available this might not have happened.

I think the story was sensationalized by the media using the xbox as the culprit. The fact is that thousands of kids run away from home each day after arguing with their parents. Sometimes the argument is about friends or girlfriends, sometimes about skipping school or not doing chores. It is sad fact that sometimes these kids will be hurt or die in their journeys away from home. It is also a happy fact that most of these kids will come home without a scratch.

Or something. Quote:

Its so sad when a story ends in tragedy | It is sad, Sista that something like this can lead to death.
The news is saying that the boy probably died of exposure, having just gotten tired and gone to sleep, rather than just going home with his tail between his legs.
My lads were punished similarly (where it counted and where I knew it would get their attention) and learned "the lesson".
