Study: White Americans Don't Like Talking About Race

FOXNews.com - Study: White Americans Don't Like Talking About Race - Science News | Science & Technology | Technology News

An interesting thing to look at. Apparently whites are a lot more worried about race than blacks are here in America. They noted that worrying about race goes all the way down to 10 - 11 year olds. I admit myself that I am a bit cautious in those waters, but I lived around a lot of blacks for 3 years, so I'm not as worried about it as those study participants are. What are your thoughts on this guys, gals, and BM.

That's a good study mate, and I'm not surprised about it too much to be honest. People are always going on about being PC (and not the good kind that we approve of here) and it gets to the point that anything that might offend someone is wrong.

There was a black guy in my college class and he wasn't bothered in the slightest about anything because he made jokes himself. He was a thoroughly nice chap and quite often called us all white boys It's people like that that help you realize that you don't have to watch every word you say because the media over-play everything and the fact of the matter is that most people aren't bothered at all about what you say. Unless you're insulting them, of course.

Exactly BM, everyone is equal and should be treated as such

It's just that people get nervous about what they can say around other people, which imo is pretty silly.

I have travelled all over the place and worked in West Africa, Egypt and all over Europe. I have found it is not a matter of race but one of standards. As simple as that.

Is it something children learn from their parents?
My great grandmother used to say to me when i asked her to do something

Do i look Black ??
I never fully understood what she meant as a child

Of course now its obvious

In fact my uncle is refusing to attend my cousins wedding
The reason shes marrying a very nice coloured lad and is extremely happy

Thats unacceptable to me
Racism in my own family makes me so sad

Our grandparents had a completely different perspective on this - even I had a Nigerian servant once! Great lad but a thieving little git - his motto was very simple: What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine too! There you go you see - just a matter of standards!

The thing about standards is that they tend to become...well...standard for a group of people, hence your stereotypes.

Honestly, I don't really mind racism to a point. I don't tolerate racial violence and hate, but I can tolerate pre-judgment, partly because all people pre judge some people at least a little bit, based on their personal experiences... I myself am admittedly a bit racist myself I suppose, but don't misunderstand me: It's not like I wouldn't associate myself with those people. I've had friends as well as acquaintances of different races an nationalities, so excuse me if it bothers you...

Racial violence is something not to be tolerated at all for sure!

Verbal racism can also be very damaging, especially when young people are involved as it is used as a form of bullying which also cannot be tolerated.

Racist behaviour takes many forms - in my book, anything overt is gross and unacceptable.
