Missing 4GB RAM when reinstalled Windows 7

I was running 12GB of RAM (2GB x 6) in ASRock x58 Extreme Motherboard with Windows 7 RC.
I did a clean install of Windows 7 final edition RTM recently, but now my bios and windows show only 8GB. CPUZ still shows all 12GB. I installed the latest chipset drivers and have run out of ideas. What would have caused windows (and the bios!!) to now only see 8GB?

Hi and Welcome to TechSupportTeam!

Have you ran memtest by any chance?

Also, have you tried updating your bios (providing to you know how to do this).

I purchased the deluxe version of memtest and booted directly to it. After 13% it already found 3 errors. Does this mean i should RMA all my RAM?

Does this mean I should RMA my ram? (OCZ from newegg)

When i run memtest deluxe at bootup, it finds 3 errors by the time it is 13% complete.

(By the way, I am running the lastest bios version)

memtest86+ is free - did you download the iso version? If you haven't, go to the link I provided and download it. The ISO version needs to be burned to a cd as an image. Your burning software will tell you how to burn an image file. Let the programme (memtest86+) run for at least seven passes.

If Memtest86+ gives you errors, your ram is more than likely bad. Could you please test each RAM individually, and then together.

Would W7 32 bit normally recognise 12Gb or should you have the 64 bit version?

Thank Jason - I have never found Asrock boards to be any good so I would be inclined to blame that in the absence of any other problems!

Ok, so beside that very technically-based answer, does errors with memtest mean I should RMA all the ram or is there a way to pinpoint the problem further?

The reason for that remark is that I have seen too many dead systems through my workshops that have been down to failed Asrock boards.
You could try running the memtest on each module individually to see if it is just one of them - but bear in mind you should also check for a bad socket as this is also a known area of failure.
