I have 1x 512meg of ddr400 ram in my pc at the moment.
I have managed to get hold of 2 sticks of 512meg ddr 333. (may well have a 3rd on the way, not sure yet)
Should i stick with the one ddr400 or go with the pair of ddr333? With the possibility of adding a third 512meg ddr333. (have 3 ram slots)
Any thoughts and opinions will be helpful.
Thanx in advance to all who answer this.

Definitely the two sticks. The performance is not as good if compared to one stick obviously, but if you benchmarked your computer with the 512 DDR 400 then the 2x 512 DDR 333 you will find the two sticks beat the single. Plus you will have a larger capacity so you will be able to run applications smoother. And 3x 512 DDR 333 even better lol

Yup, I`d also recommend you use the 2 ddr333 sticks as well. It`s not really a good idea to mix different brands/sizes/speeds of ram etc. It might work, but then again, it could cause problems.

Yes it would work, just that the DDR400 RAM would only work at DDR333 to match the rest. I can't imagine you having problems really if you used the DDR400 along side the DDR 333. Just make sure you set your RAM in your BIOS as DDR333

I have an asus mobo so mixing ddr400 with ddr333 is out of the question.
I have just found out that the stick i will be getting is pc3200 = ddr400.
But, it only says pc3200 on its label which means it will be a different make to my infineon ddr400 as that says ddr400 only on it, i.e. it doesnt state pc3200 too.
The 2 ddr333's are identical btw.

Well i've ran different branded RAM and had no problems with it, as long as it's the same speed.

In an asus mobo? They are notorious for being finnikey about mixed ram brands.

All I'd say really mate is try the new 400MHz stick with your current one. If it doesn't like it, put the two 333 ones in I don't think you're likely to cause any damage by trying the two sticks together. I don't have an Asus mobo, but both my sticks are different brands, but the same speed and size, and as far as I can tell they're fine.

Very true Dave. There's no harm in trying at least. As Dave said it's extremely doubtful that it will cause any damage. If it's unstable, take it out

That's it mate Mobo's seem fairly hardy to me, the amount mine's been put through and it still works I've dropped a screwdriver on it, blown a PSU, put ECC RAM in when it doesn't take it and slipped when using a screwdriver a few times, to name but a few things

Yeah, it was around a year and a half ago, and I didn't know what EEC was so just bought some RAM from eBay then didn't know why it didn't work when I booted the machine It sat and beeped at me :frown:
Error Correcting Code! Now I know

Lol Dave, if I`d done even half of that, I`d have had a dead mobo by now.

Haha, ebay is full of that crap lol, thats why it's so cheap.
Only works on selected motherboards (mainly VIA chipsets) and servers

It just goes to show they really don't make them like hey used to. The thing is, one of my screwdrivers is still a bit magnetic, and out of the 3 screwdrivers I have (two of which are magnetic - a bit) it's the only one that will fit PC screws. We have loads of other screwdrivers, but they're all in the toolbox outside, where it's cold
