A very interesting read, as i have used Crucial memory for about 10 years and have been fortunate enough never to have a bad stick.
Glad it is all up and running for you now.

Just a quick note. I use Crucial.com to scan my systems memory and then go to newegg.com or tigerdirect.com to compare the prices. I've noticed Crucial.com usually asks at least a 1/4 or 1/2 more in price for their RAM. I also noticed Crucial.com charged $39.99 for a 1GB stick of their RAM and then on tigerdirect.com they charged $24.99 for the same Crucial.com brand stick of RAM.

The last time I used Crucial in a new build was a disaster - despite being on the recommended list by the motherboard maker the things failed to run at all and in the end I went back to an old favourite - Kingston.

Darn, that isn't bad at all. It must've been b/c the RAM I ordered was old and outdated. But I was surprised to see such a change in price for the same RAM.
Ahhhh...Kingston.....thats all i've used. I never had any problems with their RAM....knock on wood.... lol

Hi again guys.
I now think that the first stick, the bad one was a fluke. This second stick I received from Crucial is working very well. I really don't feel like I need another gig but I'm sorry I didn't order two when I bought it.
They say that they should be bought in pairs. I think I'd be afraid to buy another now or it might not be a match for the first.
Oh well.
Regards
Len

If you order exactly the same chip from the same supplier the chances are that it will be a match for the first one.

| It happens with anything and no telling when and where or why it failed.
Me being pretty good at ESD and the havoc it causes has shown me many times
how some failures happen. Device is shipped in antistatic material, opened and
handled without measures and bada bing, it's dead. That quick and that deadly.
Not only a novice the victim but professional people as well.
Merely one of an elaborate assortment of things that can and do go terribly wrong.
Good luck. |

Static is a killer, but watch anyone in an IT workshop and although they may not wear an anti-static wristband or similar, they subconsciously touch the chassis of any earthed system on the bench. I do it all time but did not realise until somebody asked my what I was doing fondling the chassis all the time. As if I loved them that much!

Very true, Albert, as I also unconsciously fondle my equipment.
I never liked being physically tethered to my work.
When I said professionals risk it, I really meant so called professionals as in
the guy in the electronics store showing you the ram, taking it out of the box/wrap,
handling it any old way, giving it to customer to look over, and then putting it
back in the wrap/box. I know, that's not a pro but you get my driftt. |
