512MB RAM is minimum for Windows Vista, but as people find out, having 512MB and running vista is not a great experience, I tried to run vista with 512MB RAM, and it was OK, until running other applications, then you notice why you need much more. I have 2GB myself, with Windows Vista, and feel even the amount I have is not quite enough, especially when it comes to multi-tasking. In my opinion 1GB RAM should be the minimum nowadays with the advances, and with memory hungry applications such as games, and video editing software, even operating systems nowadays, a lot of RAM is required. Just remember that if you are planning to run 4GB RAM with your computer, make sure that you have a 64 bit (x64) operating system installed, along with a 64 bit enabled CPU as the maximum a 32bit (x86) windows operating system will take is less than 4GB, leaving the rest wasted as Windows will not address it.

Yes i am plannng to get 4 GB soon as i do have 2 GB now at the price for a stick of one is about £40 depending where you get them from. Pretty good. But if your a gamer 2 GB is all you would need to run, even though i would like 4 GB as it makes your system sound good. |

But don't forget you would need a 64 bit (x64) operating system installed, as well as a 64bit CPU.

I agree, I plan to get 4GB PC-6400 RAM sometime in the first half of next year. But the change over to a 64 bit operating system will be a lot of hassle, and I fear that most of my applications will fail to work within the 64 bit operating system, but I guess I am willing to take the risk, as it can only improve  - Oh i've installed 64 Bit Vista Ultimate with no hassle at all, and all my applications and games run as normal 5.5 on Vista E.I
