High CPU Temperature on Amd Athlon 4000+

Hello ,
I'm new here and i come from google finding the thread called "Post your temperature' that actually is closed.
My problem it's just like title of the thread said , i have an Amd Athlon x2 4000+ with stock cooler and Gigabyte GA-M56S-S3 as motherboard. When i have only mozilla firefox and Yahoo! Messenger + Firewall and AntiVirus opened my CPU temperature is 45 and MBO Temperature around 50 .Well maybe you'll though that's ok but when i play some games my CPU temperature and MBO temeprature get up considerabily to 90* C then my system shutdown.I bought this system in february this year and i clean my CPU cooler about 4 times.
What should i do w/o buying another CPU Cooler ? Can i do anything ?

Hello and welcome to TST

Buying a new cooler would be the most effective thing you could do, standard ones aren't usually that great.

You could also install extra fans in your case, or look at the airflow of the ones you currently have, because if you have minimal airflow through the case then temperatures build up very easily.

Good air flow is essential. And as dave said that and buying a non stock cpu cooler is about the only two things you can do. Where in this great world are you? I ask cuse it will be easier to post a link if we know where you.

Oh haha, I didn't see the end of the link. lol

something like this could work.

Newegg.com - Thermaltake CL-P0478 80mm CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

you will have to look at your places that you can buy parts from cuse I have no idea what is over there.

*edit* It is pretty big. But I did just look at your case and I think something like that will fit in it.

No problem

By the looks of your case on that website, it seems that there is no fan at the front. Putting a 120mm fan inside at the bottom - in front of the hard drive(s) - would be a great way to get more air moving through and it would not cost a lot. It does look like you have one fan in the side roughly blowing near the CPU, and two fans going out the back (one of which is the one in the power supply).

If you want to replace your CPU heatsink/fan (hsf), then Zalman is a very good brand. I also have a Gigabyte motherboard with an AM2 socket Athlon 64 X2, and I am using the Zalman CNPS 8000. It is a very quiet cooler (with the speed turned down ) and quite effective, and is socket 940 and 939 compatible, so it will work with your motherboard.

Zalman coolers come with a "Fan Mate 2" which is a small box that you have on the outside of your case that allows you to adjust the speed of your fan. I currently have it set a small amount over the slowest speed, have Firefox, Windows Media Player and Windows Live Messenger running, and my CPU temperature is 32C. You can turn it up at any time, so you can adjust it whilst you load your game and keep it nice and cool.

What will also help a lot if you change the cooler, is to use Arctic Silver thermal paste. It will be supplied with some white paste, but Arctic Silver paste gives much better thermal dissipation into the cooler, which makes the processor run at a lower temperature.

I hope that's not too much info for you I tend to go on a bit

One other thing - make sure the machine is drawing in cool air all the time. If it is next to the heating this can have a big effect.

Hey Daveskater , This Zalman CNPS 8000 cost too much for my budget i think.I want to resume this around 40$ max anyway in Romania all of this are a little highly priced than newegg prices :-s .
Btw on newegg in link that samjohnson leave it say Free Shipping ,that's only for U.S i'm right ?
Albert Lionheart i will check that too.
Hey guys what about to open my case and make a little video with my cell phone ? will this help you ?
PS: I don't except to receive so much replies in that little time ,thanks for that.

Ok, I don't know how much stuff costs in Romania in comparison to England so just thought I'd throw in what I've got

The free shipping on Newegg is only for the US, yes.

A video would be good, or alternatively a couple of pictures. Either would be fine. If you're opening up the case whilst the PC is turned on then do be careful not to stick your hand right inside or anything like that.

Unfortunately Aly007, newegg is for US and I think Canada only. Its not worldwide. To bad though. Awesome site.
Hey Dave, in your post there are you saying he has a 940 or 939 socket? Cuse I figured it was AM2.
No problem Aly007. That is whats great about here.

That's quite similar to my old hsf

I'm not sure if it will fit on the motherboard, though, because it screws on to brackets, and if the motherboard has a similar surround on the processor to mine then it cannot be attached as it needs to be clipped on.

Afaik quite a few Athlon 64 X2's are on both socket 939 and 940 so I was just making sure they were both covered

Aly
you could try running the system with the lid off - this would tell you if it is a box ventilation issue or a CPU fan issue.

Well I see part of the problem there in your last pic. Your desktop is in a enclosed area. It probably can't get enough air into it to properly cool the system.
