If that has a solid back to it, Sam is absolutely correct. Assuming your PC is on the left, what is the box on the right?
And having your feet on the mains distribution extension is not a good idea at all!

Is that slot bigger than the one on the left?? If so you could swap them over. You don't need much to get more air around the thing!

That looks like a sub woofer Albert. And even if he didn't have a solid back it wouldn't matter, the desk is right up to the wall.
But ya I see what you mean aly007, doesn't look like you have much of a choice.

Tidying all the internal cables up with spiral wrap can't hurt either as they will obstruct air flow quite a bit.

Good call Rik. They are hanging right where the air wants to go.
Personally I would untie them and shove them in the empty 5.25" spaces

Also, if you are into modding at all, a couple of fans in the side of your case could help a great deal too.
Have a look here at what I did to my pc case as an example. My case mod
Using "round" data cables will help, if you don't want to go to that expense then some cheap cable wrap can do the job with a flat cable.
Here is an example of a "round" data cable - http://www.logicsupply.com/images/ph..._cable_big.jpg
Here is an example of spiral wrap - http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/directron/38onblack.jpg

There are plenty of tutorials on the Internet plus you only have to ask here for ideas and advice.
Concerning your parents. Tell them that spending a little money on your pc now could well save a hefty repair bill down the line. The fact that it shuts down to protect itself means it wont go wrong right away but the components that get hot will end up with a shorter and shorter lifespan and one day in the future it may well not turn on anymore.
I have spent over 15 years in the electronics trade and i learned very early on that heat is bad.
