ASUS Motherboards & BIOS Updates

I have just finished the second system build of the afternoon. Both systems were on different ASUS boards (one SLI for games and the other not). Neither board would recogise the E8400 chips and required a BIOS upgrade.
What really hacks me off is that these CPUs have been around for ages so why are ASUS shipping boards without the latest updates on them?
Any ideas welcome - I may engage in a yelling match with them if I can make myself angry enough.....

Just the same with AMD, it would not recognise the 9850 without a BIOS flash.
After 10 years of building computers, I still keep my fingers crossed when i flash a BIOS.
I have never had one go wrong but I still feel I am tempting fate.

I had a total disaster a few months ago updating the BIOS on my ASUS motherboard, so I had to RMA it. I also bought a new one, and that didn't have the latest BIOS on either.

My advice......
Steer well clear of the ASUSUpdate utility

I prefer ASUS boards, but their software and support is terrible.

Maybe they should sort out updating their BIOS, but then again it could be that the motherboards have been with the retailer for some time, so the BIOS won't be the latest. Just a thought

Hi Alan & Joshua
I don't have a choice as I have to try and get this board up and running today....
Touch wood I have not had a problem with the ASUS BIOS flash - some of the others such as Jetway (aargh!) not so good!
Will let y'all know how it goes......
Won't be long now.

It is done and although the process is not the same as the last ASUS board I did yesterday it works. Now reinstalling Vista to ensure stability. What a way to spend an almost sunny Saturday afternoon! Might just start a new thread.....
