New system build

I have just finished a budget system for a client based on the following
Intel E2160 Dual Core 2 x 1.8 GHz
Asus P5G-MX
1 Gb PC 5300
80 Gb SATA drive
XP Home
I am amazed at how fast this little thing is - goes like the clappers and cost complete with cordless kb/mouse and 17" TFT screen only £245 + VAT.
Sheesh!

Sounds good mate
I'm currently building a budget PC, and i've currently spent just over £100 so far, but still to get the RAM, CPU, graphics card and the PSU. Will be similar spec to that, but an AMD

I could have gone cheaper with a different board and RAM but wanted a degree of reliability in the thing as it is for an old boy who just wants no hassle and for it to last him out. A bit sad that, but there you go!

lol. I only want this budget system for browsing the web, IM, Media Center and possibly 1 or 2 games so nothing too straining. I've already got 2 Samsung Spinpoint 80GB hard drives for it which I intend to RAID 0 so that should boost my performace a little

I've left this one with the on board graphics - an immediate boost would be a bit more RAM and a PCI-E card. Upgrades later if requried but I don't think he'll need it.

Yeah, saves money, and if you don't exactly need a GeForce 9800 GTX2 then it's good for saving money. At the end of the day, theres no point in having something that's not going to be used, it's just a waste of money

Nope - especially the pillocks who traipse in and out of the place to be a willing victim to incompetent sales people and a price rip-off. And I can prove it if any of you don't believe me!

Haha, I know exactly what you mean. Some people are just asking to be ripped off. I know many. Maybe they should do their homework before putting their trust in someone they don't know and who is obviously going to want to make a tidy profit

memory = should have been lower PC speed, so you can get more memory capacity at same price. It just loses some performance, not a big issues.

Hard drive = that's little too low, bump it up 250 it is only 100 dollars.

The rest of them are very good deal. Just two issues you need to be aware of.

EDITED = Still deciding which hardwares is the best for my slim desktop that uses less than 275W of power.

To be honest, there's virtually no difference in price between PC2-4200 and PC2-5300, well here in the UK there isn't. It's be something stupid like £2, which is virtually nothing. Plus PC2-5300 is more widely available
an 80GB hard drive isn't bad depending on what is going to be stored on it What's the point in spendng more money on a 250GB that not even 10GB will be used on.
I think it' an excellent built, especially for the purpose. At the end of the day it's about getting what the user needs, not the best of everything simply because you can

The spec is for the user - if someone asks me to build them a machine the first thing I do is find out what they are going to do with it. If it is the occasional letter, email and a bit of browsing then, as Joshua said, the 80 gig drive is never going to fill up.

Horses for courses - a good motto for PC builders!
The point I wanted to make was that the performance from this budget machine was a lot more than I expected.

That's alright spec for that price mate If only I could get by on that hehe, I'd have gotten a new PC ages ago

You're spot on mate, why have an 8800GT when you only play Solitaire? It just don't make sense.

80GB is alright as well, that's what my dad's laptop has and he never used more than 40GB of it I think, seeing as he basically did emails, browsed the web a bit, and listened to some music.

Good point. I'll keep that in my mind.
