Albert - 3DMark06

I expect you could run Vista quite nicely mate, when you upgrade to it

Try doing a 3DMark test and see how many points you get, then post in our thread hehe. Josh has the same CPU as you so it'd be interesting to see who comes out on top, if both your cards are connected now.

It took a little bit of digging, but here it is mate:
|MG| 3DMark06 1.1.0 (Includes October Hotfix)

I'm going to run that when I have my new PC hehe. As it stands I'll get 5 points hehe.

Longest intro thread FTW

I was thinking earlier that it's strayed quite a bit off topic, but seeing as it's the Into forum, it doesn't matter quite so much There's only so far you can go with saying "welcome" really!

Haha. I get just over 11,000 That'll do for me. My CPU scores around the 3500 mark, so yours should get about the same Albert

So - as the weather is forecast to be filthy this weekend I will run the benchmark without and then with the SLI link cable and see what happens.
Watch this space!

Something wrong here - I didn't even get 2000 on the thing! No individual score for the CPU either.
will try the SLI bridge.

Something is definitely wrong there mate. You should be scoring around 3500 on the CPU alone, let alone the rest of your computer. May not be individual scores as it's the free version, but i'm not sure about that.

Good question - my wholesaler only has the one I had already so I might try Maplin or a local tecchie shop in Rugby. I had a thought since then - maybe my board (Asus p5b) is not an SLI board - nah - must be.....

Albert. Since the G'day thread went off topic, I took the liberty of moving the 3DMark posts to this thread so we can continue

SLi bridge to small, I have never heard of that, I have done several SLi rigs with Asus boards (AMD not Intel) and the bridge has always fitted, although one did not work and I had to get a replacement.

It is because the gap between the two 16x PCI slots on the ASUS P5B DL board are further apart than on other boards - and the SLI bridge I bought from ebuyer is about half as long as it should be. I had always assumed (I know I know) the bridge to be supplied with the motherboard but I never got one with this board. I RTFMd and cannot see any reference to SLI so guess it is not supported. Ah me, Oy Veh,

That is probably why no SLi bridge came with the motherboard.

The strange thing is on the ASUS site it says it supports ATI crossfire tecnology not Nvidia SLI tecnology.
Plus with two cards on e lane will run at 16 speed but the second one will only run at 4 speed.

Thanks Joshua - not that I seem to be getting very far with this at all as the results from the benchmarking tool as absolute cr*p!

I could find no reference to either x-fire or SLI for my particular edition of the board. I will move the board on and get a better one which will support the two Asus PCI-Ex cards I already have. The thing seems to work fast enough anyway, but then that's what engineers do - fiddle with things all the time to see if they work!

I honestly don't understand how you only got in the 2000s in your last benchmark. You should be getting more than that on the CPU alone so your score should be easily over 4000 . Something is definitely wrong.

Yeah that's right. If you want a motherboard that is SLI ready, you will have to get one with a NVIDIA chipset. If it is an Intel chipset and has two PCI-E ports, then it is crossfire, or in a rare situation it's both, but I think that is only available on one Abit motherboard to my knowledge

Joshua
the thing is 3DMark06 using the freebie unregistered edition.
I use mutiple monitors and even with all but one disabledthe score is about 1850.
The interesting thing is that the machine is quick - but barely breaks into a sweat according to the task manager.
I will run the benchmark again with the task manager working at the same time to see what happens.....
thanks for the help and interest in getting to the bottom of this one!
