M2N-SLI Deluxe no longer changes fan speeds

Hey, I was wondering if anyone else has this problem.

I bought an "ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe" about a week ago. When I turned it on, the chassis fans would spin at full speed for about 2 seconds, then slow down to a nice, quiet speed.

They no longer slow down. I don't know why. Using SpeedFan, I can slow the speed of the CPU fan down, but none of the others.

On this motherboard, there are 2 hardware monitoring chips as shown by SpeedFan.
Primary: IT8712F-J
Secondary: ADT7475

There are 6 fan headers on this mobo, too:
CPU
PWR
CHA_1
CHA_2
CHA_3
CHA_4

CPU; PWR; CHA_1 are all on the primary chip.
CHA_2; CHA_3; CHA_4 are all on the secondary chip.

All of the Chassis fans are controlled by one speed setting. (By default. SpeedFan has settings so that you can control them independently, but I only found this out after it stopped working.)

The CPU fan header is the ONLY header that can change speeds anymore. It doesn't matter what fan you plug into it, it will still change speeds. None of the others will.

I have tried EVERYTHING, from trying every known Q-Fan setting, to completely disabling it and trying SpeedFan.

Nothing works.

Please help if you can!!

Thanks in advance, sh1ft3r.

The BIOS has even been updated to 1404, and reset numerous times. Did I mention I tried everything? lol

I updated my BIOS BECAUSE it happened. Like, to see if it would fix it. But it didn't. So, yeah.

So it just happened out the blue. Right, let me think (this could take some time lol). From your power supply, do you have a cable which fits into a fan header by any chance?

Yes, I do. It's a 2-wire connector, for fan monitoring. No speed changing.

Oh, I see. 'cause some PSU's have their own fan control system. Just to make sure it's not that though, have you tried taking it out then seeing if that makes any difference? I know you said you tried everything, and I don't mean to sound patronising but just making sure

Yeah, I know. And it's ok. lol

And yes I did.

And my PSU has a knob on the back to control the 80mm fan, too!! It goes from about 1,600RPM up to... 3,500? Yeah. 'Bout that. Loud as a 3,500RPM case fan! lol

I have one. :S

Ive got the same motherboard. You should have a thing called "PC Probe" it comes with the asus driver cd. With that you can monitor all your PCs fans. I haven't actually figured out if you can change the speed of the fans with that program but maybe you can figure it out. Hope that helps your problem. Are you fans actually connected to the motherboard? Or are they connected with the molex connector to your PSU?

They're connected to the mobo. And yes I've tried PC ProbeII. And no it doesn't change speeds.

Q-Fan (the fan controller program built-into the BIOS) *used* to slow the fan down at boot-up, and keep it there. It doesn't anymore. It just *stopped* doing it.

By "resetting the BIOS", do you mean you used the CMOS reset jumper, or took the battery out to do it? If you haven't done either of them, then try one, they both have the same effect. If you take the battery out, leave it out for about a minute then put it back in again. Do not start up your PC with the battery out. (You might know that, but I don't quite know your level of knowledge hehe)

Other than that I'd try contacting Asus as well.

"Resetting the BIOS" = BIOS reset jumper.

This was a couple of boots before the BIOS update AND the boot after.

Both to no avail.

I contacted ASUS, and they told me to contact the supplier. Which was some dude off eBay, I *think*.

This sucks.

Ooh well you have learned now to never buy stuff like this off ebay, unless you don't care that there is gonna be no warranty for it. There could just be something wrong with the board and no way to fix it. Sorry that I can't help further. Hope you figure it out.

Is it possible that the BIOS settings have changed to make the board respond to the OS for control?

Yeah... It *has* a manufacturers warranty....

SpeedFan can't control the fans either, tho.

Just wondering. Did you have Q-Fan to decrease fan temperature by changing the target system temp or % fan speed? Or have you tried both?
