it doesn't support ddr3 memory. it only supports a fairly high ddr2 speed. and while that may carry you for a little while, it won't carry you as far as the one i suggested. and the one i suggested ALSO holds 8 gigabytes.

Oh it does? Cause I thought I read somewhere on the page for the one you suggested that it only can hold 4gb. If what you say is true, then I'm stickin to the first one |

Forgot to mention I went and got that check. $173. The next ones will be small though.
Unfortunately, I've come across this major setback: Hard Hero Enterprises -Captain America Statue
I'm currently paying it off and it's going to cost a lot

How much was that thing? Personally I would have just saved the money for the computer, but it was your choice.
Hope you get the rest of the money you need soon though.

link590o just got one of those. Good card to. Performs right around the 8800GT, not much difference actually.

Who knows. The 9600GT is a little cheaper. I actually just got my 8800 at a really good deal so it really wasn't any cheaper. The 8800GT does perform just a tad better. and its got 112 Stream processors, to the 9600GTs 84 I think. I get anywhere from 60 to 100 FPS in COD4 depending on what kind of action is going on I.E explosions and stuff. Youll have to ask link what he gets. He told me right around 60 but it probably does fluctuate. But it isn't much of a difference between the two. and the 9600 is lighter on the PSU to.

The 9600GT has less shader processors than the 8800GT, which have 64 and 112 respectively, but the 9600GT has a higher shader clock frequency, and core clock frequency.
They both have 512MB RAM and a 256-bit memory interface, but the higher clock speeds on the 9600 is where the difference is, really.
They're also both 65nm as opposed to the 8800GTX/Ultra which are 90.

Oh yes the 9600GT does have the higher core and clock frequencys. And yet the 8800GT performs just a tad bit better. Its probably because its got those 112 stream processors, but I really don't know. wow I can read labels. lol

Yeah mate, that's probably why.
Then again, the 9600 is the mid-range card in the 9 series and the 8800GT is one of the top models, so can't be completely compared.
However, as a clever consumer, it would probably make more sense to have an 8800GT is the price is less or similar, as you'd get that bit better performance from it

Very true. And the 8800GT might come down by the time taima wants to buy one it will probably be a good price.

Just a word of caution about some Asus boards and the Q chip = despite their claims that these boards are ready, I have just bought a P5N32-e3 SLI PLus which would not boot with a Q9300 chip on it. As I do not have a spare 'lesser' E CPU to run it up I have had to order a new different board and a cheapo chip in case I need to upgrade the BIOS.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Asus thing Al.
As for the 8800GT coming down in price, that's an understatement. It'll be worth like $20 by the time I get this friggin money together.

I'd love it if it was that cheap hehe. I'd buy one even though I don't have a PCI-e mobo yet
