Haha you do mate, in the top 10 for longest thread in the whole forum I reckon
That's a good question, it's possible but I honestly don't know if it will or not. It probably won't but it could do the graphics card in. This is all speculation, though. Albert might have more of an idea.
Your dad will probably be ok as long as it's only light use (Word, Excel etc, a but of Internet) but if he loads up Crysis then tell him off

My dad doesn't do the slightest bit of gaming, and if for some reason he tried to play Crysis on that thing I may die of laughter, and the following massive explosion due to the strain on the computer from the game.

lol. Though you may die of laughter from you dad trying to play crysis on his computer, the computer itself would not die. Just because it won't even load it in the first place!

That's why it's going to explode, from the unimaginable strain put onto the computer trying to load the damn thing lol

If the board goes it does not usually take anything with it - not like PSU's which can create a domino or cascade effect.

I knew you'd have a better idea of the situation hehe
We all know the havoc that eMachine PSU's rain down upon unsuspecting victims
I'd want pics to of it kersploding, or a video of your dad trying to load Crysis then the folloing band and smoke etc
Anywho, yes, tell him to take it easy and save his pennies.

The smoke adds realism doesn't it?

lol watch you end up hear some news report that says something like:
"62 people were killed today in America after a computer detonated in the fashion of a small nuclear explosion. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but officials believe that it was due to the owner of the computer attempting to run the game Crysis on the machine, causing it to explode due to the unimaginable amount of stress placed upon it. Approximately two city blocks were destroyed in the blast, and assorted computer parts were found as far as five miles away, including a stick of PNY RAM."

LOL. That would be rather weird yet funny if something actually happened like that.

Finally have some sort of news today relating to that computer that i so badly want but yet don't have the cash to get.
Got me a motherboard during school today, with a nice 5-finger discount. it's an
Aopen i915gm-I motherboard. I don't really know much about it other than that I need someone to tell me how to get the heat sink thing on the chipset down cause it's loose. I also know that it runs on DDR1 RAM (which is good and bad because I don't have to buy RAM for it), has a PCIe 16x slot, (which means no video card for me). And is a Socket LGA 775 which means I can finally get some processing muscle. I'm assuming it's a pretty cheap board just by looking at it.
....okay so maybe I do know a bit about the board....

Try googleing it and see if you can find out about it. Just because it is LGA775 doesn't mean it could say support a core 2 duo. I would do some research for ya but its getting late and I got to be up early. Need to do some school then its off to work at about 11:20AM.
Glad your on your way to getting a better computer... sorda.....

Can that board support dual cores? I'm not sure even though the specs are right here: AOpen i915Gm-I Specs - DealTime |

I fear not Taima - looking at the only spec I could find it only supports P4 chips. That does seem odd so maybe there is a BIOS update to deal with that? There is also supposed to be some sort of problem with the PCI_16 slot but I could not find out any more about that (in the limited time I had to go googling for it - sorry!)

Damn that kind of sucks. Well if anyone finds anything useful out for me, it'd be much appreciated.
