As the subject line says, I'm looking for a place around me (zip code 19036) that would have a pretty good but cheap processor motherboard combo. In the next two weeks I'll have around $200 (can save more if needed now that I have a job )
As some of you may know, or knew if you forgot, (Rik, Howard, Dave and a couple others...) my mobo is unable to handle games anymore due to a voltage problem. That and I have a freakin' mobile processor in there (it's a desktop computer for those who don't know) Even if it was a regular processor, I still need a new one because I can't play any good games anymore. I'm trying to get at least a 3ghz one because that would be a lot better than my crappy 2.1ghz mobile POS.
So if anyone can help me, I appreciate it
Thanks/Cheers/Gracias/Merci and so on |

Not that anyone in England can help with a local shop for you, but perhaps we could make some helpful hints?
Do you want to keep the rest of the system?
Do you want to upgrade the board, the chip and the ram all at the same time?
What's your budget for the job?
Can you do the installation yourself or do you need help (hence the local store)?

Yeah for now I'd like to keep everything else. Shortly before I found out my mobo was screwed up, I bought a gig of RAM so I'm not really worried about that right now. I'm happy with my sound card and I'll get another graphics card eventually. Pretty much everything is fine save for the mobo/cpu. I've never installed a mobo before but I could probably do it myself. The reason I don't want to do it online is because my parents are, for a lack of a better word, paranoid about what could happen. Not only that, but going to a store for it is kinda easier I suppose. You actually see what you're getting in person and who you're getting it from. I don't have an exact budget but the cheaper the better. I don't want to have to wait for more money. (I get my check on the 7th and $100 on the 5th...not quite sure how much will be in the check cause it's my first one and I don't know how much they'll be taking out in taxes and whatnot)
If you need anymore info, feel free to ask for it |

You need to work to advantage - if your folks are worried about the upgrade they should be happy about taking you to a local store - all you have to do is find one! I'm sorry buy I cannot help from the middle of England!

I would suggest going to Comp USA, but the bad part is they went out of business. There may still be a few stores around that havn't sold everything so you can check. I would highly suggest going to newegg.com and get what you want. I don't know if you could convince your parents but thats the best place to get computer parts. Tigerdirect.com isn't bad either but I like newegg better. Millions of people buy things off the internet and nothing bad happens. I have personally bought all my computer parts off of newegg and have loved the service. If you can't convince them to let you buy off the internet then just do some searches on google for around your area and see what stores are around.

Tiama is somewhere near Philadelphia - and needs a shop as parents are not sure about DIY on this one!
There must be a local store - yell.com?
Yellow pages USA found 1341 stores in Philadelphia - there must be one near you!

lol of course there are some near me. But the thing about it is, are they gonna be like those jerks in south philly that ripped me off so bad when I didn't know jack about computers
Just to make it easier on all you UK fellas, let's assume that I can indeed buy online. What would you then suggest?

Yup, you were right then.
If you`d posted it in the correct place to begin with, I wouldn`t have had to move it at all lol.

On topic - if you get a detailed quote from a local shop you can always ask us what we think about it?

hmm...that sounds like a good idea. There's this one place I want to check out a few miles away from me. This dude I know says they have really cheap stuff. But I might end up buying some parts off newegg (see my topic in this section called question about quad cores).
But yeah, that's still a good idea.
