Which do you prefer, Intel or AMD? Or does the brand name of your CPU not bother you, like me. Let us know your thoughts and the reasons why.

I don't like to take sides - because I think it's pathetic. Although IMO I would say Intel - however AMD do have their advantages. But IMO Intel are advancing too quickly for AMD - with Intel soon releasing the "Intel Penryn" with 45nm - where as AMD are still in the 60's nm.

Intel already have a 45nm processor out, with the Yorkfield QX9650. I would like to try the AMD Quad Core, to see if it actually does have the power to compete, even though on paper it looks otherwise, but i'm not one to jump to conclusions.

Totally agree with you Josh - you can't same something is "rubbish" and not worth buying if you haven't actually tried it yourself.
And yes seen the Core 2 extreme Yorkfield QX9650 out - I would like to try it.

I like both AMD and Intel, and I think it would be a shame if AMD was to go downhill. It's alwas nice to have a choice, although people take it too seriously and won't even try another brand of processor. I have both AMD and Intel processors and they both do a fantastic job. It's not about the computer, it's about the person using the computer that counts :P

Yes, they say a computer is only as stupid or clever as the person using it.

Too right people blame computers for mistakes when it's them to blame, just blaming it on the computer because it's an easier solution than blaming yourself and trying to actually learn how to use a computer correctly

Absolutely spot on! In time (Not for a while) I may open a university at this site - where members can apply to be apart of the university. It will be a place where we have teachers ect. and we can learn people new to the computing world. This is all planning - so don't get too carried away - there are far by more important things that need doing to this site.

Fair enough you prefer Intel Joe, you have valid reasons, and ones which I totally agree with. But would you ever try AMD just out of curiosity by any chance?

Nice to know that some of us are open minded when it comes to our computers. I hate taking to people that are so against one brand and so for the other, and don't even have valid reasons as to why they are so against the other. I have a quad core Intel at the moment, but i want to try the new quad core AMD and have them both, and give an unbiased opinion on the performace of both. I'm going to wait a bit though until the the AMD drops to about £150. In my opinion they will be probably almost the same in performace.

They both have there own advantages.
AMD's are cheap, reliable and good for a home user.
Intel, More reliable, gamers, great for multimedia usage.

Their price ranges are extremely similar nowadays although Intel used to be more expensive initially, though times have changed. Although I agree with your other statements

I usually go with AMD becaues it's cheaper and I'm on a tight budget when it comes to making PC's, or anything really
I've heard that the Intel dual cores OC very well but I'm stuck on Socket A for the mo and have no cash to try out other hardware unfortunately.
