Re: upgrade old comp for bro.

Is the graphics bus AGP or PCI Express?

Re: upgrade old comp for bro.

Well if it's PCI-E I would reccomend an ATi HD 2600. The performance is not the best of the best, but it performs and plays most games on high settings with ease. The main reason I suggested it though is because it will have very little effect on the power supply, so you do not have to worry about the power supply not being powerful enough to run this card. The card consumes about 30W of power, and is powered from the bus alone (no nasty PCI-E cables trailing everywhere in the computer, and no heavy power consumption) Depending on which model you get (I reccomend the GDDR4 version) they are priced between about £50-£100.
Hope this helps.

Re: upgrade old comp for bro.

Well if what you say the graphics bus being PCI Express, unless you mean just ordinary PCI, it will work with no problems. If the graphics bus is just the ordinary PCI with 33MHZ bus speed, then the best graphics card you're looking at is most probably a nVIDIA GeForce 5700, which is not very good nowadays and will struggle to play the latest games, as they discontinued the production of new graphics cards on the ordinary PCI bus a couple of years ago. But I doubt it will be this. Do NOT get mixed up between PCI and PCI Express, they are completely different.
If your graphics bus is AGP, then the best graphics card you could get is probably an ATi X1950 or a nVIDIA GeForce 7950, both priced at about £100, but you may need to revise the wattage of your power supply for these graphics cards, I would reccomend at least a 500W power supply for these graphics cards.
Make sure you check your graphics bus before purchasing any graphics card because I will not be to blame if you purchase a graphics card with the wrong bus type to your motherboard.

Re: upgrade old comp for bro.

Please could you post some screenshots of your motherboard - or even better tell us your motherboard make and model - this way we can determine the best card for you.
