Re: what scares... Used to be a few things until I saw that it was the thinking about it that created the fear. In essence if entertains something unpleasant in thought then it can become frightening. This hinges upon belief in some ways.
Of course there are situations where the body reacts to a clostrophobic environment for example (but such things have been demonstrated to be related to latent thoughts or past experiences affecting current behaviour when an appropriate stimulus is introduced. Much of this is subconscious, or unconscious reaction. The people who do MRIs are aware of this and they usually ask the patient if they are uncomfortable in tight places (at least they asked me and when I asked why, they said it was standard procedure since it was not an uncommon occurrence).
So, having been through many near death experiences myself, and having observed how the mind and thoughts operate, I would say that fear for myself is not a concern at all.
That does not mean that there might not still be some involuntary, unconscious reactions that will occur under specific situations - but then I do not plan to invite that!

PS - A very possessive woman (or man) can be a most frightening experience in some situations.
