You did the best thing by sending it back - if you mess them about they will refuse to warranty the repair and charge you for it.

otherwise its 68 quid and im not paying it

Your MP if I recall is a bit of an ornament. We had all sorts of aggro with the nursing home at St Nicholas who have refused to give us back our deposit when my Mum died. He was asked to intervene and was about as much use as a plastic pansy.
