The shock result came after Congress rejected the rescue package by a vote of 228 to 205.
The Dow Jones immediately plunged by 6% on the news, and experts believe the FTSE may well plummet tomorrow.
Sky's Jeremy Thompson said: "We are witnessing perhaps one of the most dramatic economic and financial moments in modern history on both sides of the Atlantic."

In the American system one billion is 1000000000 and a trillion is 1000000000000 so one trillion is one thousand times one billion.

A mathematician would have simply written 10^12.

The U.S. does seem to have a lot of money 'to throw' at wars and such. I guess even with all their wealth they cannot simply enjoy it and be happy. Sad.

Perhaps if we all stopped a minute and thought how well off we really are
We have fresh water healthcare food and shelter
Compared to countries like Africa
Well there is no comparison

Regards Howard | I do not know how many of you are programmers as well but as I understand it, to a programmer creating algorithms and a significant understanding of at least the mathematics of Boolean Logic is quite important.
