Need I say more?
It's a BFG model 9800gtx overclocked to 760mhz core and 2250mhz memory, and I'm only paying $208.96, shipping included. All I have to do is go to the bank tomorrow, wrap my order in a money order, and send it off. In all likelihood, it will arrive on Thursday of next week. I'm allowing the weekend for it to process, and I doubt UPS will ship on labor day. So with 3 days from Tuesday, Thursday or Friday seem highly likely. I finally had that extra tidbit of money to spare, and this card just leaped into my arms and begged me to bring it home. I won't have the luxury of a lot of spare cash for long so I made a worthwhile purchase.
And I...am absolutely stoked. As nice as my 9600gt is, it just...lacked a certain umph if you know what I mean. Call of Duty 4 ran nicely, but it did lag in a good number of areas. And I plan on buying Farcry 2 when it comes out, and no doubt that is equally if not MORE visually impressive than Call of Duty 4. So I'd like to be prepared.
It also gives me a neat excuse. A friend of mine had his birthday sometime in July, but he didn't have any birthday wishes. And his computer has a SLI pair of 7900s, which are kind of outdated by now. So I can send him my 9600 for a belated birthday present

Im sure your friend will love you for that.
Very nice on the 9800gtx! Pretty nice price to. Your system will definitely kick @$$ after you put that sucker in there.
I am pretty satisfied with my 8800GT. Very nice card. Hopefully it will last me for a while before I need to upgrade.

He most certainly will. He bought me a good number of things over the year including Half Life 1, Half Life 2, Half Life 2 Episode 1, a subscription to a forum we like, all kinds of little things. This will be my repayment. And it will be a HUGE improvement over his current setup. His SLI 7900s can barely play Bioshock on high settings at full resolution. He hasn't even seen it in all its glory yet. And my card will let him do that.
My system will tear the gates of hell a new one with that 9800 in there. I'll be more than ready for Fallout 3, Farcry 2, Half Life 2 Episode 3, Call of Duty World in Arms, and any other sweet game that flies my way.
I don't think you have much to be worried about with your 8800. It's a solid card with solid performance, and it will be able to handle things just fine long enough for another graphics revolution. You bought yourself a year or two with that card and that's quite a while.
When you start struggling to play a game even on lowered settings, you know its time for that upgrade...or if a really good deal like this one comes around.

yup there is the dreaded Rosewill again.
Runs my 8800GT fine... anything bigger than that will most def need a PSU upgrade... actually if I get a new CPU some time I will probably upgrade the PSU.
Something better.... lol

If I get a job sometime, which I'm hoping I will, I will be throwing whatever spare cash I have around. I'll be trying to help a friend purchase herself a new monitor, I'll perhaps try throwing you a bone and buying you a new power supply, and I'll certainly be...say...donating to this place?
That's if I get the job I want. Ironically, I might be working in a Mac store .
And I'll need to pay all my tuition and books first and see what's leftover too. But we'll see how that goes.

I got a job at radioshack not that long ago. Pretty good job. Pays decent to. Now for sure where you are, you'll get a better minimum wage. I get a lousy 6.55 an hour then commission.
Great place to work though.
I'd take a free power supply. lol But nah I can pretty much afford one just don't really need one at the moment. But next year I think I will upgrade my CPU and buy a PSU at the same time.
Hmm.. a mac store... TRAITOR!!!
I want a NAS drive to.

I'll sell them, but I won't endorse them. I have SOME decency. I don't have much choice since a job is what I sorely need, and this will pay off. If it all works out, I may very well be working with a close friend of mine. (She strongly hates Mac too ).
So...if anything, call me a forced traitor. I did it, but not because I wanted to!

If macs would support the games... or maybe I should say if the games would support the macs, I would try it out. But I would probably end up going back to windows. Plus I know have XP pro. Hopefully you get a job of some sort though. Those text books aint cheap.
Welp I am out. Gotta be at work at 10 tomorrow. Doesn't sound early but its a 40 min drive there. so I guess I got be up by at least 7:30. I know still not that early but I like my sleep.

That's plenty early. I have to be up at 8:15 or so tomorrow morning....and actually, I need to be up at 8:15 or 9:15 on alternating days during the week. I feel your pain.
And as far as I know, Macs do support the games. You just need some special software to let the Mac recognize them and install them/play them.
I tried out a Mac for a while because a friend of mine had one and let me use it. I felt it was nothing special, and I've stayed with XP pro despite whatever gains OSX had over XP.

Ya I will stick with XP. Now if you could play the games on Linux that would be cool. (with out wine that is)

I would but it was his birthday, and I already promised it to him. So I put the nail in my own coffin on that one :3
Oh well. In terms of the ordering process, I still have yet to hand in my money order. I have it sealed up in an envelope and ready to go, but I haven't yet found a stamp. Otherwise it would've been on its way by the end of today.
I only hope they use the weekend to process the order. It would suck if it took 2 days for them to process it starting from Tuesday, and then another 3 days to ship with the weekend blocking it in the middle.
And I didn't really notice this until I tried using a money order, but apparently when you use a money order, Newegg doesn't give you the option of Rush Processing. That kind of sucked too.
We'll see how it goes.

You'll have to post a 3dMark06 score of us

That...would be nifty. As my system currently stands, I get about 10,285 3dmark06 marks. Wonder how much it's going to jump :3

Your current score is fantastic! I can't wait to see your new score
I get around 12,000 - 12,200, but I can see yours beating that

The only thing I'm starting to wish I had was a PCI-E 2.0 slot. Any boost in performance that I can get would be nice.
But a 9800 will be just fine. I sent out my money order early on saturday. I know I shouldn't be getting excited because it'll just prolong the time it takes for it to arrive...but damnit all! Who DOESN'T get excited when they're ordering new and amazing hardware for upgrading their pc?

Well I don't think that will hold you back really. My mobo doesn't have PCI-E 2.0, and my graphics card supports it, but mine still pulls off some great performing benchmarks, especially considering I only paid £118 for it almost 6 months ago
