Are you installing it in FAT32? It cannot be installed in NTFS due to SSDs having problems with the file tagging (IIRC anyway).
Also, I have a Pentium M 1.73ghz/30gb laptop that WAS running 256mb DDR1, and even that was actually pretty quick (not far behind my PC actually)
